I've only ever liked one book that I was required to read. I really enjoyed Fahrenheit 451. We also read books like Frankenstein, Catcher in the Rye, Wuthering Heights, and the Scarlet Letter; but I didn't really like any of these books.

I liked Rebecca a lot, and also there was a story about Sindbad but I'm not sure what the exact name was.

I enjoyed reading Cold Sassy Tree. I was also required to read Jane Eyre, which I hated the first time around. But when I went back and read it again and I actually enjoyed it.

In the 11th grade, we were required to read "The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien. I remember at the time, I was not thrilled when we got this assignment. However, the book really opened my eyes to different genres of fiction as well as to different writing styles. I ended up loving the emotionality depicted in O'Brien's writing. Since this book was assigned, I have reread it many times.

The book that I enjoyed reading in school was The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. When I was in my senior year of high school, I started to adore East of Eden by John Steinbeck.

I guess it is a tie between the two. I annotated both books while reading it and I would consider reading them repetitively if I could.

There were quite a couple for me. Pride and prejudice, to kill a mockingbird, the outsiders, and memoirs of a geisha are the ones that come immediately to mind. I also enjoyed the reluctant fundamentalist and the grapes of wrath.

Too be quite honest, I didn't like any of them. Back then, it was hard to like something you were told you had to read instead of reading for enjoyment.

The assigned book that stands out most from my college days (20 years ish ago) is Moby Dick. I didn't expect to like it but found it to be absolutely awesome and have reread it a couple times since. Although not lately... hmm.. may need to go back on the to be read list.

In university, we did a full dystopian semester and I loved everything that I (had the time to) read. Notable entries were:
  • A Handmaid's Tale
    Clockwork Orange
    A Brave New World
    1984
    etc

The Caucasian chalk circle, the river and the source and the river in between. Great classics.

For how much I've always loved to read, I can't remember ever really liking an assigned book. I would have been much happier if I could have chosen my own books, unfortunately, it didn't work that way! :shifty:

For school, I enjoyed quite a lot of them. I'll mention a few: Purple Hibiscus, A woman in her prime, The Blinkards, Old man and the sea and lots more...

I have enjoyed reading a lot of them. A few of my favorites were The Book Thief, The Great Gatsby, and stockily because many people disliked this one To Kill a Mockingbird.

These required books were great and meaningful: "The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka" and "Fathers and Sons by I.S. Turgenev"
