For me, it really depends on the book. If it is fiction of some sort, I try to always make it through to the end because I do not like not knowing the end even if the book is hard to read or not very enjoyable. If it is a nonfiction book, I am much more forgiving of myself to skip out on finishing it if I don't like the book.

Guilt rarely surfaces when I can't finish a book. Started reading a book that was, based on the description, up my alley. Ten pages in and reading halted.

Those ten pages were in the first chapter which consisted of twenty something pages. The story wasn't going anywhere fast and I wasn't the only one who noticed. Books based on video game series I can usually get through but couldn't finish the first Splinter Cell book.

The reason is a mystery but I was able to fly through the second book.

Generally, I feel guilty when I order the books from a library, but I cannot finish them. A recent example was Malcolm X's autobiography. Enjoyed reading the first few chapters, but couldn't finish unfortunately.

I feel guilty. I mean, what if it gets totally awesome in ten more pages? I am slowly teaching myself that it's okay to abandon a book if it's not hooking me fifty to a hundred pages in. If it takes that long, it's probably not going to get better.

I always try to finish a book, even if I am not enjoying it. I don't know if it is guilt or fear that I will miss out on some big turn-around in the end that makes the parts that I didn't like worth it.

I never quit reading a book before I finish it. Once I start reading a book I have to read it till the end.

Nope. If I stop reading a book then that book is gone for my house.

I used to feel super guilty when I wanted to stop reading a book, but now if a book doesn't click, I don't read it and that's it.
There are better books waiting might as well get to them.

I will do my best to complete a book before beginning a new one because of my obsession with checking off tasks. In doing so, I’m not suggesting this is an ideal way of thinking, reading, or living life. Often, the gratification I experience when I finish a book can sometimes cancel out some of the dissatisfaction while reading it.

The only book I can think of that I couldn't get into was The Host by Stephanie Meyer
I did feel guilty and sometimes I think I should try to read it again, but I just couldn't get into it.

Maybe it's not guilt but more worry that I might miss the moment when the book turns into greatness...
I do feel guilty at times, but I also tell myself that life is too short to read books you don't like, when there are so many amazing ones that you can read in that time.

Not really. Mostly I'll just flip through the remaining pages if I lose interest or I just leave it alone. Guilt free!

Yeah I do feel guilty when I leave a book unfinished, but the fact is that sometimes some books need to be left out in order to find a good one. We can't always have everything. In order to have something we have to lose something but yeah I do feel restless when I leave an unfinished book!!

I felt guilty at first, but after a while the need to find a really good book became too overwhelming.
