Changes in Reading Tastes

Post by Anandi Iyer Ghosh »

OVer the years, my reading tastes have changed. As a child, I started with fairy stories, comics, and moved on to Enid Blyton. Then my tastes changed to romances, mysteries and thrillers. Although I still read romances occasionally, I I can read a variety of genres. The plot just has to catch my interest.

How have your reading tastes changed over the years?

I think as you age your reading changes with you. I started out with fairy tales and as I got older it changed to romance, horror, sci-fi, classics.

I go through changes in genres. I'll get into one for quite awhile and then switch to something else. The last one was historical fiction, now I'm on a fantasy kick.

I started reading only fantasy books at first, then when I was in International Primary Pregny School I moved on to fantasy/mystery. Early teens, I tried historical fiction as well and late teens started to gain an interest for crime/mystery/adventure thrillers.

I have totally changed what I read! I used to love Stephen King, Dean Koontz with a smattering of romance novels but have mellowed into a serious mystery fanatic. I also love science fiction that includes actual science , but not so much the vampires and werewolves stuff.

I used to like those cheap trashy crime paperbacks that came out in the 50's into the 60's. The ones with the half-naked girls on the covers, but anymore those turn me off.

I started out with fantasy and as I got older I started reading all other genres. But I don't stick with just one I bounce from genre to genre depending on what catches my eye.

I still go back to fantasies as and when I feel. They are light reading and still very much enjoyable:)

Likewise - As a teenager I was an obsessive fantasy addict but recent years I think I've outgrown that genre. Until last year when I read Cloud Atlas (and loved it) I don't think I'd read a fantasy book in years.

I've always loved fantasy but for several years I was bitten by the manga bug and they made up the majority of my shelves. But now even though I still read multiple series, I find myself turning more and more towards science fiction and young adult novels.

I used to live on Steven King, Dean Koontz and John Grisham. Once I had my son, I couldn't handle those anymore. I've spent a decade reading JK Rowling and Stephanie Meyer and Rick Riordan,...

I just go through periods of times where I want to read different genres, but I usually come back to the same things over and over.

For the most part, I think my general taste in genres has remained pretty constant...The one big difference I have noticed, however, is that I am much more interested in nonfiction now that I am older. As a child, I wouldn't even look at a nonfiction book unless it was assigned reading for class.
