It would really depend on the person. I view each book I buy as an investment, in a sense. I don't buy books that I don't want to keep, and keep in good condition, so it would bother me if it came back bent or torn, etc. It probably wouldn't stop me from actually lending it to someone, but... yeah.

I don't like lending books to others because they are precious to me. I loaned one to my husband, who is a trucker and I got it back with oil on it! He is the only one in the world who can get away with that. I would rather not loan to others and have my books come back dirty or not at all.

I am not a fan of lending out my books. I am a hoarder of them. If I know someone has a genuine appreciation for literature then, yes, I will lend them one of my books.

I used to not mind but after having some books come back damaged or never be returned, I'm selective now. I only lend to people who i know will take care of them and return them.

I lend my books out all the time. Sometimes it's the only way to share good literature with people I know, since some of the books I read are not readily available.

No, I used to enjoy sharing with my friends just so that there would be more people to talk about the book with. But after getting my books back in some horrible conditions if at all my mind has been changed. If I lend a book, then I don't expect it back. I'm grateful for ebooks in that respect, I can give a person a copy of mine without having to rely on getting it back.

I am very hesitant about letting people borrow my books. So far, I have lent out a couple and I have not seen them, in 2 years! I'm very worried because it is my favorite series! I need them back! But if it was someone I can really really really trust, I let them borrow it. Other than that, they are my precious friends!

Usually only to family who I know will return them as a result of losing books I lent to "friends" in the past

I only lend books to two of my closest friends, because I know they will return the book, and it will return in the condition it was lent in. A long time ago, I lent a girl from work a series of books and it took me a year to get them back, and they were not in the best of condition.

I lend my books out to others all the time. If its one of your favorite books, it's like sharing a piece of who you are.

I only lend books I've already read because, as others have said, you don't always get them back. And I hate to be that person who's always bugging someone about returning a book. But I will do it, especially if I know the person well.
