If I have to lend one of my books, I would do it to a family member or a friend that I know very well. I believe that books should be read by as many people as possible, but often they don't take care of them the way that they should. My books are my precious treasures, and I try not to risk losing them.

It depends on the book. If it's one I treasure and I only have the one copy, I wouldn't. But if it was just a time filling novel that I wasn't that fond of I will.

The last time I let someone borrow one of my books, I never got it back. So, I never let anyone touch my private library now.

I cannot stand lending my books out! If I lend a book to you, I *really* like you. Most of the books I've lent out were never returned, and I'm very reluctant to rent them out now.

I only lend my books to one person since I know they're as obsessive as I am about keeping books in order. Even then, I don't lend books often.

I do lend out my books, but you could say that my book collection works like a library. I have my name stamped on the inside cover of the books that I lend out and I have the person borrowing the book to promise in writing to return the book by a set time and in as close to its original condition as possible.

You have to make it clear otherwise people will abuse the privilege.

I would only lend out books I know I won't reread and don't care much about. My collections and my classics, don't leave the house unless they are in my hands. On the opposite side of the coin, I used to be the ONLY person a friend would lend his books to, since I read fast enough to finish them within a week on my breaks at work, which was also where he was. He tried lending one out to another coworker once who brought it back covered in tomato seeds, after his wife had thrown it in the trash.

For me, it depends on what the book is and who I am lending it to. I love the idea of book-sharing, but I have books with sentimental value that I would never consider parting with, not even briefly.

After a lot of mishaps I think I now prefer not to lend books.

No I don't, the last time I did that the person gave them to some one else and it was half a series I spent years building up. Now i have two books that aren't even in order and it makes me mad every time I look at them. I haven't had a chance to restock because I'm in between full time jobs and trying to pay for college.

I only lend my books to those I trust. Even though I don’t care about the condition of the book (eg the spine is bent or dog ears or pages being folded). Books are very precious to me and I would never lend it to people who are irresponsible.

I do not mind lending my books to other people. However, if I really like a book I will caution the borrower to handle it with care.
