My first language is Bengali, and I used to read almost exclusively in that language since my childhood, and would occasionally read a few English books. In fact I've started one of my most favourite English book series with its translated version. But once I started reading more and more English books, I was exposed to a whole new universe and since then I find myself reading mostly in English. I still love to read in Bengali, but the number of Bengali books I read has declined in the recent years. I mean to take up more books in my first language.

Same here too English is my first and only language. As much as I want to learn another language , I don't know enough to read fluently too.

Yes. Manipuri is my first language and it has a rich literature. I always read stories, poems, articles in Manipuri. But, no translations from other languages because they miss the real essence.

Books are rarely translated to our language so unfortunately, no.

Most of my reads are in English. I used to read many books in my first language, but it has been quite some time since I read one. It's just that English is more accessible. I don't prefer translated books unless it's something I really want to know about.

I can only read in English and it plagues me that I'm missing out on the pure language on translated books.

I am an Indian and Hindi is my mother tongue. I read short stories in hindi but I prefer reading novels only in english.

P.S- that doesn't mean that Hindi novels are not good. That is my preference.

I prefer reading in English. But recently, I've been trying to get better at my first language, Yoruba, so I love reading in Yoruba now.

My first language is Spanish, and I love reading in Spanish, there is this melody in my language that I don't get in others. Reading the Spanish classics is beautiful really, I can't imagine them in other language. I have read a couple of books in English, and I have no problem reading in that language, there are also expressions lost in translation when the original book is written in English, so when that's the case, I read it in English.
I am learning German for almost 3 years now, but I have only read kids books hahaha but I will continue to improve and someday read in this beautiful language as well.

Of course I do. In my case, I'm also an aspiring writer, so I need my vocabulary on point. But these days, English is more prominent in my life because of the university and internet.

I used to, but not anymore. I've already read every must-read classic in portuguese. The majority of what I read is English.

I have never read books in my first language because I hardly understand the language but I will train myself and read it one of these fine days as long as I get someone to take me through the process.

I feel a sense of ease when I read in my first language which I don't feel with English. But I don't read translations though as I feel they don't do any justice.
