I don't like people talking in the background, but I usually leave the TV extremely quiet while I'm reading, just for a little noise.

I can't concentrate on reading when there is complete silence. I like to have the tv on in the background. As long as the volume isn't too loud, it actually helps me to focus on what I am doing.

If it is more like a buzz in the background, whether loud or quiet, I can usually zone it out when I read, but if it is people talking audibly for me to hear I get distracted really easily.

It depends on what I am reading. School work I don't have anything on, but reading for pleasure I can have the Tv or radio on because I will get lost in the book. It is never truly quiet in my house with my pets, lol

As I've gotten older, my reading attention span has decreased sadly. I found I need either silence or classical music in the background to focus. I cannot for the life of me read while the family is home.

Ideally, I like to read in silence, with no disturbances at all. I can cope with a certain degree of background noise, but anything louder and I just can't concentrate. I certainly can't read if the TV is on, or there are conversations going on around me.

I usually prefer to read in silence, but sometimes when I am feeling lonely I will turn on the TV and keep the volume low.

I like sitting outside and listening to the birds and the water running in my koi pond. So relaxing reading and drinking my coffee. Perfect background noise. 8)

Noise doesn't bother me...if I couldn't read because it was noisy...I'd never read.
However, having someone talk extra loud, not even to me, just to be rude
That drives me nuts :x

Absolute silence. I hate noise. I can read fine in noise, but I prefer silence. It's easier to become engross that way.
