Book You Just Can't Do

Twilight, Fifty Shades of Grey, and Harry Potter. To me, HP was not well written compared to the other books I've read. I've never read the other two I mentioned, but I found their popularity annoying.

Concerning Fifty Shade, I've been reading fanfiction for the majority of my life, so I think I kind of know my way around a good sex scene by this point, BDSM or not. If I saw Fifty Shades on Archive of Our Own, I'd probably x out.

I don't really read fanfiction, but if I did, I would do the same thing.

Maximum Ride. It's my genre, it seemed like it should have been catnip to me, but... yeah, no. The writing sucked. The only book I refused to finish reading to my recollection.

I've read all of the Women's Murder Club series up until now, I've read several other James Patterson novels and enjoyed them enough, but for some reason his young adult fiction completely turns me off. I just don't think it's his genre.

I haven't read 50 Shades or Twilight and have no desire to read them. I tried reading The Hunger Games, but couldn't make it past the first 5 chapters.

I can’t do romance novels. About half-way in I wonder why no one’s been murdered yet (I do love crime fiction). Three-fourths of the way in I want to kill off characters myself. Danielle Steele is the worst. I just want to attack each book with a red correction pen and mail it to her. Sorry, fans

Literature professors would hate me, but anything by Dickens. Good gracious anything by him is so bland, stiff, and boring.

I agree with you completely on Pride and Prejudice. I found it incredibly boring and didn't see the point in reading it. I read it for school, but even today, I know it is not the type of book I'd enjoy.

I love to see that other people couldn't do it with the Fifty Shades books. Another situation where "everyone" was saying how great these books were and I finally kowtowed to reading the first book. I made it about a third of the way through and decided it was trash. Literally. I threw the book into the trash.

Mine was Looking for Alaska. I remember everyone-- teachers, peers, blogs-- telling me to read this book. I loved The Fault in Our Stars and I watched John Green on YouTube, so of course, I was excited to read it. But when I finished it, I was extremely underwhelmed. I haven't picked up another book of his since, just because I'm afraid to have a similar experience.

I cannot do the Fifty Shades of Grey novels. I couldn't even make it through one. I don't understand the hype at all.

Like other posters, I can’t do fifty shades. Those books give the bondage community a bad name. Can’t do a romance book where abuse is supposed to be “romantic”

I have tried the Lord of the Rings trilogy time and time again but I think I just need to accept that it’s not going to happen.

The Hunger Games I read the first & went on to the second but couldn’t finish I found them too depressing. I also hate my sisters keeper & had to read it for school & I hated it so much . I would boycott that book the end is stupid and I will never watch the movie or read it again.

I also wouldn’t read any John Green or Nicholas Sparks, I hate depressing books so I stay away from these authors.

For some reason I could never get into books by Sarah J. Maas, Leigh Bardugo, Cassandra Clare and Victoria Aveyard. They're all so very popular and I feel like I'm the only one not reading their books.
