Do you have a favorite holiday? Is there a book or a genre that you try to read around that time that gives you that extra warm fuzzy feeling?

My favorite time of the year is fall. I love fall festivities and Halloween, it's much less stress than other holidays and I enjoy the trick-or-treaters visiting.

For reading, I usually remind myself of local ghost stories and bring out a few choice poems or short stories related to the season.

I love the winter when it's so cold that the only solution is to get cozy and read. That also means I feel better about committing myself to the long fantasy books and series, so The Lord of the Rings is always a go-to.

My favorite holiday is Halloween. There's nothing special I read at this time of year though as I usually read ghost stories and horror/paranormal/supernatural books throughout the year.

I also like reading creepy books at Halloween - Happy Halloween, everyone, by the way! - and still am utterly devoted to the Rosemary Timperley ghost story collections I inherited from my Mum, also Dean Koontz, Shaun Hutson, etc. Last Christmas I read Donna Tartt's 'The Goldfinch' (wonderful but in my opinion still not quite as good as 'The Secret History') that starts with a description of someone in bed with a miserable dose of flu at Christmas, and guess what position I was in???? Nice touch of serendipity but still hope it doesn't repeat itself this Christmas!

Ooh, those all sound interesting! I will have to add them to my "to read" list.

Around Remembrance Day (marked here this weekend) I often re-read All Quiet on the Western Front and Testament of Youth.
