Hey I just got a sony reader I have never purchased a book online. I was going to get The Prince of Mist by Carlos Ruiz Zafon but I saw it on a great offer so bought the paper back. Now I am wondering what to get as my first ebook purchase. If you could tell me the best place to purchase a book (note that I am in the UK), what book you think would be good and a little bit of what it is about. I would like to read something new, maybe a chart book, but I would also like it to be something that hasn't yet been made into a film yet (it just leaves it more up to my imagination). I would like a stand alone novel rather than something that means I have to buy book after book in a series.
If you could post help with any of this it would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Edit: Any help really! I have only read classics up to now and want a bit of a change, so something new would be nice.

Does Sony offer free or 99 cent books? Sometimes you can find interesting reads that way that you might not otherwise pick up. If you like historical fiction, I just finished "Nefertiti" and loved it!
Have fun and good luck!

Well I looked around and I found a cheap book on waterstones £2.50 Darren Shan - Lord of loss,
I didn't think all that much of it TBH though I did read it to the end so it wasn't absolutely horrendous.

Switch to a kindle. There're tons of free/$0.99 good books.
Most classics are free.

Actually I do not see any reason to pay for ebooks at all. You can download it or just ask for the friends of yours for such books.

Project Gutenberg is the best free e book site I have found. They have something like 40,000 books in many different formats. I think there based in Salt Lake City.

Thats true, most of Gutenberg's books are from about 1960 to as far back as when they first started writing books. Theres one place called Blio, it was on this computer when I bought it, they have newer books some are free and some are not but they are not too expensive.

Brilliant standalone book: Poppy Day by Amanda Prowse on Kindle. there are two of them, so make sure you get the one with the man and the woman on the front, he is wearing a rucksack. Amazing story of love and war. her husband is taken hostage in Afghanistan and she sets off to get him back. It is moving, funny and will definitely be made into a film so get it now. It was my first kindle book. BRILLIANT. #Be prepared to stay up late reading it...

Hi,
I also have a sony reader and love it. You can also use your public library. all you need is a library card. I have synced my reader to my pc it is easier to shop around for books. There are lots of free books at the Sony reader store. Have fun and enjoy your reader.
