In the case of good books, the point is not to see how many of them you can get through, but rather how many can get through to you." (Mortimer J. Adler)

I would suggest just about anything by Ted Dekker then. :)

Glad to have you! I'd recommend Jodi Picoult. She tends to be a crowd please and has a little of every genre you mentioned in her books.

If by any chance you haven't yet read the original Jason Bourne trilogy, I would definitely recommend them if you like action books! Otherwise, I completely agree with the earlier user who recommended Jodi Picoult. I have not yet found a book of hers that wasn't engrossing enough for me to read in a single sitting! I would also recommend "Ripper" by Isabel Allende (her writing is exquisite, and this was her first crime novel, so if you like thrillers you should definitely check it out). If you are interested in dark novels with an air of mystery, try Elizabeth Kostova's "The Historian" and "The Swan Thieves". Hope these ideas help!

Welcome! :D I'm pretty new here too. Do you like historical mysteries, or contemporary ones? I like the latter because there is no "send it to the lab!" option -- the person(s) solving the mystery has to base their conclusion on what they see, what they hear, and so on. If you think you might like this sub-genre, let me know and I'll recommend some authors.

Also have you ever read The Last Policeman trilogy? It's by Ben H. Winters. The narrator is a police officer in New Hampshire who's working under a very unusual deadline: there's an asteroid headed towards earth, and it's going to do to humanity what the last one did to the dinosaurs. The first book is six months away from the date of impact; the second one if about six weeks; and the final one takes us up to impact.
