How is that series? I found the complete series on Amazon for $20 or so, and I considered buying it. My sister didn't like it, but that's her opinion.

I don't think it's King's magnum opus, as everyone believes, but it is a fairly good series. The first book isn't spectacular, the first sentence was the best part of it, and the fourth is downright awful, but overall it's fairly decent.

Its a decent series and never less than readable but King is not a sci fi author no matter how hard he tries. A case of having too many fingers in pies with this series. Horror is his forte..

I really enjoyed the series, and I agree that King should stick to the horror writing. But overall I thought it was interesting, and I think if you're a fan of King's writing you'll like the series. I have heard he's planning on doing a new book for the series that comes in between the fourth and fifth books. I'll have to reread them to remember what happens before the book comes out.

I really liked this series but I hated the ending. I read it a while back (I will not tell you how long because I don't like to date myself) but that was during my King phase and I actually liked some of the other books better (The Stand, It, The Green Mile) because of the ending. It always stuck with me that I was so disappointed in how it ended, or rather didn't. It was absolutely worth the read but IMO fell short of some of his other books.

I read somewhere they are going to turn this into a movie or series of movies. Should be some very interesting casting decisions to be made going forward.

I think Viggo Mortensen would be an excellent choice for Roland.

Much prefer his one- off novels as a first choice, his short stories in second place, his series last, but still very readable.

Couldn't name just one, I like Christine and the film plus Salems Lot, Firestarter and Carrie. How about you?

I agree with Christine and Firestarter. I actually really liked IT as well. I really enjoyed most of his earlier work, some of the later stuff was very good, but not up to the standards of his earlier stuff - in my opinion of course.

The reason I like his earlier work is (I think) he was writing, and expressing all of his literary talent just for the love of writing. They were such a success films were rightly made from them. His later work seemed to be written with the film already in mind, sometimes to the detriment of the book. Just my view, probably totally wrong.
