Need help with a kindle book!

Post Number:#1  Postby Noia » 22 Jun 2011, 13:11

I've got a kindle related question I'm hoping one of you might be able to help me with.

I've been asked to review a book, and was offered a kindle version. However, I don't have an actual kindle, only a kindle app, and the question is, how do I get the book onto my kindle account?
The author asked for my kindle mail (?)

Many thanks

Under the Digital Content section click on Manage Your Kindle

On the left side of the page click on Manage Your Devices

That screen will show your Kindle Email.

I have a question, what exactly is a kindle? Is it some kind of a hand-held reading device and if it is can I download ebooks from my computer onto it? I know very little about computers and things like that and I would appreciate any information about it. Also how much would it cost for one?

Yes, it is a hand-held reader. I'm not actually sure if you can download ebooks from your computer on to it. You can order it directly from Amazon, I believe they're running around $140 these days, way cheaper than when I bought mine! On Amazon's site, you can order books to be sent wirelessly to your Kindle or you can order them on the Kindle itself.

Thank you for the info. What I am looking for is a hand-held reader of some kind that I can download from my computer. They are in different formats, text, Adobe, HTML. I have a digital camera that I can download text e books onto but I would like something that would handle all formats. Is there such a thing?

Guys ... why not download the Kindle App from amazon.com ... it's free & it will give you a pretty good idea of what the Kindle is like to use & might help the old decision making process. (OMG I sound like a marketing geek!). I read my last book between the PC App & the handheld unit. I really liked reading it on the laptop & I have never really enjoyed reading an ebook on the laptop before. And they synchronize over WIFi so no matter which one you read on it will open at your last place (end of the dog-eared pages!).
Now Mr Kindle send on the gratuity cheque

I tried reading some e-stories from fan fiction on a horror website last night but it didnt really do it for me, felt too much work scrolling up and down plus a bit of eye strain, but who knows, i may like the Kindle so ill have a nosy around that app before i buy thanks.

Ill check it out. Ive been reading from my laptop and text ebooks on my camera, but the camera eats up batteries and my laptop is kind of bulky. As soon as I get a few bucks (or Pesos) ahead I may get a kindle or some similar device. Something I can hold in one hand, and a beer in the other.

Yeah I do, but as I said, it's an app not an actual kindle.. don't know if that is what makes the difference :(

Fran's suggestion is right on. Anyone who doesn't have a Kindle and is wondering about it should simply download the Kindle App (while it's still free). It's easy to use and was designed so authors who don't own Kindles could preview their books after they've formatted the text to be Kindle-ready.

There are about half-a-dozen Kindle devices and the app allows you to switch settings for each one, as well as switch display settings for each. Which makes it versatile. You should be able to read any Kindle-formatted ebook on it.
