I think you can but I have a big problem with Audio books .... I just find it impossible to keep my attention, my mind wanders and suddenly I find I have no idea what happened & have to start replaying. I listened to Jayne Eyre recently and it took me at least twice as long as it would have taken me to read it.
I guess it just proves my OH is right when he says I don't listen to him.

Oh thanks for the reply. Well, I prefer to listen in audiobooks because I rarely hear English conversations. Also, I like the idea of someone telling a story. No one has done it before

Yes, it is a bit lengthy if you are reading through an audiobook but you can always fast forward

What is OH by the way?

I love my Kindle!! The only things that are annoying are the way the text to speech reads (it's really robotic and can pronounce things wrong) and the typos in some books. Otherwise I love it. It has not taken the place of actual books though because I still have a long list of books to read.

I haven't got a kindle but......

Post Number:#21  Postby Fleaaaaaa » 03 May 2011, 06:52

I haven't got a kindle but I have a sony reader PRS-350 and I love it. It is my second e reader and the first was a Bookeen Cybook which was okay but compared to the smaller, lighter and touch screen sony reader it can't even compete. I love the touch screen more than I ever thought possible, the ease of double tapping on a word to look it up in the dictionary, double tapping the corner to bookmark and the oh so fun doodling that you can do due to the touch screen (obviously not essential, but fun) makes it such an advanced feeling reader.

Kindle has one thing over my sony which is the ease of getting a new book (albeit that you probably have to pay). I read a lot of classics which is all free online so that's great too for anyone who is getting a reader and loves classics it's a must.

Has it replaced real books for me? Nope, I just started going to a bookcrossers group, I have a box or three of real books up in the loft and down here now thanks to the bookcrossers I have three more in my room and thanks to the cheapness of charity shops and other bargains I have about three or four more on top of that lol.

I'm a big fan of my kindle. I enjoy the digital ink, ease of use, and the fact that I don't have eystrain after long periods of time. The only issue is obviously when it's dark, there's no backlight.

Yes, but it's just not as good as having a true backlight. The problem is a backlight and digital ink aren't compatable yet.

Isn't there the nook colour? I don't that's eink but if you have to have a reader with a backlight I think that does it. For me having a light for my reader (the one in the cover) works beautifully.

BlueLightningTN - one of the points with e-ink/dedicated e-readers is that it's less of an eye strain that a backlit screen

I use my smartphone as an e-reader, using the Aldiko app and the kindle app. I love it, it's so convenient, I always have my cell phone with me = I always have a big selection of books to read, any time, any where.

When I'm at home though, lying in my bed, on a couch, sitting wherever though, I do prefer having a printed book in my hands. It's just.. the feel of it, I guess.

I love books and the stories they hold. Some formats are just better for certain situations :)

I don't have a kindle yet, but I have the app on my phone. I love being able to browse and purchase books from wherever I am. We move a lot and with all the books I have it's a huge hassle because they are heavy so most of my new book purchases will be on the kindle. Eventually I'm going to buy an actual kindle but I am waiting and hoping they bring out a color version. :D
