Good grammar program?

Some grammar rules (and embarrassing mistakes!) transcend the uniqueness of different regions and style guides. This new International Grammar section by OnlineBookClub.org ultimately identifies those rules thus providing a simple, flexible rule-set, respecting the differences between regions and style guides. You can feel free to ask general questions about spelling and grammar. You can also provide example sentences for other members to proofread and inform you of any grammar mistakes.

Good grammar program?

Post by Madhu Sri »

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to improve my writing and looking for a good online grammar program that lets me know what grammatical errors I am making. I am pretty good in my spelling so not looking for a spell check but more of sentence structuring. I do not find Word particularly useful for my purpose. Any suggestions?

I've been using Grammarly. It's not the best, but it's better than word.

^I was just about to post the very same thing. I started using it maybe a month ago specifically for this site because I was tired of missing little things. It catches a lot more than just simple typos. I wouldn't go premium. The free one gets the job done well enough.

You are looking for a program, I know, that alerts you to grammatical errors, but what about the little book that's been around for so long, "Elements of Style" by Strunk and White. You've probably already read it, but occasional revisiting sharpens one's own discernment and sensitivity to language.

Thanks for the suggestion I was wanting to try something out as well. I know grammar is one of my weaknesses.

Same with @kio - Grammarly, but I've been using it for only a month now. So far, so good. Like @Tanaya, I wouldn't go premium. Though sometimes, seeing those "advanced issues" does pique my curiosity.

I've been using Ginger. It's far from perfect but I think better than Grammarly. I use an editor first. Then I use Ginger to pick up anything that the editor or I have missed.

Ginger is a software program that you download and it goes through your manuscript highlighting grammatical errors and suggesting changes. :)

I am using grammar checker online, and ginger software to check for my writing for free. But some online grammar site charges you for every article if you want someone to polish your writing.

Ginger and Grammarly are quite good. Both have a free and premium version, so you have a possibility to choose between them. However, you should know that there is no perfect grammar checking program and all have some limitations. They can improve your writing but will not make it perfect.

Would you know what the differences are between ginger and grammarly? Would you recommend one over the other?

Recently, I've been more into writing on my mobile than my desktop. I'm wondering if grammarly or ginger is available for phones or is there an alternative for it?

thanks for the suggestions guys. I've never actually used a grammar program before, but I might consider using one from now on.

I guess you should read more regularly to enrich your vocabulary word, so that you can easily compose and can easily write as you master your sentence structure.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Ever since the change in the book review grading system I have been marked down heavily because of simple grammatical mistakes. It seems quite harsh to lose up to 40 percent for grammatical errors and 10% for just one mistake. I know it inspires high standard of writing so I don't want to complain much about it.
