Help! Need a new I(long!) series to read.

Hello there!

Okay, so... here's the deal. I will read almost anything. But I would rather read something that has continuing characters, relationships, etc. And I need a rather long series, because I read (if it's possible) too much.

So I am on the hunt for a new series.

I have read almost all or all of Jonathan Kellerman's Alex Delaware series, Harlan Coben's Myron Bolitar series, and Robert B. Parker's Spenser series. Although these are all crime fiction - I am not opposed to switching genres.

I've heard good things about Sue Grafton and I know I've read one or two in the past, but I thought I'd pick your lovely brains for some variety.

I would suggest Dune, by Frank Herbert. Dune is one of the most compelling and popular sci-fi series of all time, spanning to a total of 17 books( though in my opinion I think that Frank Herbert's orginal six are the ones really worth reading, as opposed to the ones published by his son, which I think twist the series in an unpleasan direction.)

I have not read any Tess Gerritson, I will have to check those out, thank you!

And I have read the first in the Dune series, I believe, but it was years ago and worth picking up again. I didn't realize there were so many in that series.

harry potter?

I've found that a lot of graphic novels, like strangers in paradise or preacher, are really good series. It's also nice to take a break from novels and appreciate another form of storytelling.

I have read Harry Potter! Actually, one of my favorites of all time. haha

I've read a few graphic novels and comics... if I can get into it, I love them. But I think I absorb details better when it's the written word and maybe because written word has a little wiggle room for my imagination.

The Dark Tower series by Stephen King? It features continuing characters and relationships and would appeal to those with an interest in fantasy and horror.

Hey there Jennyfields. Looking at the series of books that you have read and enjoyed have you tried Jeffery Deavers - Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs -series. I have about 7 or 8 of them and they are quite a good read. You will know his work if you have ever seen the movie "The Bone Collector" with Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie. Another good series of books are John Connolly's "Charlie Parker" books. There are also about 7 or 8 books and this series has some wicked characters. There are also some small elements of super-natural events in some of the books. I would really recommend these they are very good. Hope this has helped a bit.

Read George RR Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series! I know I'm a newbie, but trust me!! Read it now! The first book is A Game of Thrones.

The books are amazing. I never re-read anything (there are just millions of books I still need to read before I die, I don't feel like I have time to reread!), yet I go back every few years and MAKE time to re-read these monsters.

Also, HBO is making a series out of it that looks incredible.

eta: Have you read The Hunger Games? Only a series of 3, & not terribly long, but as series go, I did love it!

I have just finished reading a series written by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child.
There are 10 books so far with # 11 due in March 2011.

I liked most of the books in the series.
It is fun mystery series with a rather eccentric FBI agent as the main character ~ Special Agent Pendergast.

How about Jean Auel's "Alya" series? It starts with "Clan of the Cave Bear" and you just grow with each book. I just love the characters and the description of the lands, adventures and everyday life of these people and times. I can hardly wait until the end of March when her last book of the series comes out.

This. Plus it's a total of seven books..that should keep you occupied. Or how about VC Andrews.

Is eight books enough?
If so, I would suggest my current favourite, and all round nice guy, Jasper Fforde. He's written six books in his feisty female Thursday Next series (starting with "The Ayre Affair") and two in his Detective Jack Spratt Nursery Crimes series which blends in with the others. I first listened to his books on audio and that got me hooked. Also, Fforde has just written a Young Adult novel "The Last Dragonslayer". His works are sci-fi/fantasy but be prepared to enter the book world with the JurisFiction team in a way you've never experienced before!

Well if you like robert b. parkers Spenser series, you have to read his Jesse stone and sunny randall series as well. The characters pop up in each others books as well. I'd also suggest Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series and Lawrence Blocks Mathew Scudder Series. All great reads and lots of fun!
