I would love to hear about your most recent purchases and/or borrowed books.
It gives me ideas on what to get next.
I didn't see another recent thread for this topic, so I thought I would start one. :D

Here are my most recent purchases, bought a few days ago.

Centuries of June - Keith Donohue
The Brothers Karamazov - Fyodor Dostoevsky
Demons - Fyodor Dostoevsky
House of Silence - Linda Gillard
The Portrait of a Lady - Henry James
Shantaram - Gregory David Roberts
Midnight's Children - Salman Rushdie
The Satanic Verses - Salman Rushdie
A Suitable Boy - Vikram Seth
Wildfire at Midnight - Mary Stewart
War and Peace - Leo Tolstoy

I borrowed a book a few days ago from my brother-in-law. I dont remember the name, it was a short book and I returned it. But it was about how people lived in colonial times, their lifestyle, things they made and food they ate. Its the kind of a book you dont want to read on an empty stomach. After reading some of the recipes of food they prepared in those times, you will be ready to eat your dining room table. Breakfasts of ham and bacon and eggs, pancakes with piles of home made jam and butter, several different kinds of fruit, milk right from the cow, fresh baked biscuits dripping with butter, and good strong coffee that you could float a horseshoe in. And that was just for breakfast. They needed it back then, they worked from sunup to sundown 7 days a week so I imagine they would have a good appetite.

Didn't get any books for me; actually, I haven't bought any books for myself for a while.
However, my daughters like those books from the "Geronimo Stilton" series, and my son likes "Big Nate" books.
And with Christmas approaching, and all the Black Friday deals going on, now is a good time to make purchases.

I found an E Book called Lords of the World by Rev. Alfred Church. Its a fictionalized account about the fall of Carthage.

Good topic. Hmm I bought lots of books lately!

But the two most recent ones:
Dan Simmons - The Hyperion Omnibus (I have this book in Dutch and decided to get it in the original language since I really liked it)
Deborah Hartness - All Souls #1 - The Discovery of Witches (my brother's girlfriend recommended this to me, it was either pay more to ship the other things, or get this book and free shipping for in total lesser money so XD).

I got two books yesterday:
The Luzhin Defense and Mary, both by Nabokov.
Lolita. Light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth.

Also, "Tamil Tales Of Sri Lanka" by Richard Paul, also on Kindle. A bit sad, but good.

It actually came in yesterday's mail. I had a pre-purchase on Tom Clancy's recent release, Threat Vector. It's #17 of his major novels.

Now I can stop drooling and start reading.

My latest have been in this last week.
"House of Joy "by Sarah-Kate Lynch, it looks like a fun read.
"A Fine Balance" by Rohinton Mistry, highly recommended by Carrrie, I have peeked in here and there and it looks very promising, plus the first line has captured me.
"The Fairies' Midwife" by Australian author Lawrie Ryan, it is my latest reading, and most enjoyable :)
"London Belongs to Me" by Norman Collins, this will be a reread, very special 8)
"The Choir" By Joanna Trollope.
"Consider Her Way and Others" by John Wyndham, a collection of short stories, I have a thing about short stories, I am always buying them, most of them are still waiting to be read

All of the above are preloved and purchased from op shops.
