The Heart is a Lonely Hunter is in my top five! Great characters.

Spooner by Pete Dexter moved me to laugh and cry. It is definitely my favorite. Followed by Watership Down. Honestly, the two battle for top spot.

My favorite book right now is "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak - I totally loved it! I read a lot of Young Adult books because that is what my daughters read and it gives me someone to talk to about a book when I finish! "The Book Thief" is a great book set in Nazi Germany and in the very first few pages you find out thea the person telling the story is "Death" and he is talking about a young girl's journey through life during this terrible time. The characters are well described and when you finish the book you feel like you knew each one personally.

I think you'll find many people love this book, TariLynn (including me). See the separate forum about this book.

I love women's literature. One of my fave books is Watermelon by Marian Keyes. She is the queen of chick lit and really tells a story we can all relate to and characters that appeal to readers.

I would have to say my favorite books are 1984 by George Orwell and My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. Oh! And I also loved Lord of the Flies. Dang it. I love them all. -.-

I read this book and promptly vowed to NEVER EVER read another Marian Keyes book.

I'm not familiar with the Picoult book, but the other 2 choices are pretty damn good.

Way too hard to choose one. I guess it would be between:
"I, Claudius" by Robert Graves, John Steinbeck's "The grapes of Wrath" and "Tides Of War" by Steven Pressfield.
I suppose I'm particularly susceptible to vast amounts of tragedy within a real-history context.
I vividly recommend all three of them.

My favorite book ever is probably Hemingway's "A Farewell to Arms". I am debating on whether or not to read the new edition because it includes all of the approximately 40 alternative endings and I think that the one that he chose suits it best. I think that the novel is probably the best thing I ever read.
