mine would be:

Perks of being a wallflower-stephen chbosky

hairstyles of the damned-joe meno

diary- chuck palahniuk

speak-laurie halse anderson

1984-george orwell

ill probably curse myself later and wish i had put something else in place of something else, but for now these are my choices and im sticking to them!

Ok, I like what the person said before, about it being like "choosing between children" lol. I'm going to cheat a little bit, and allow some of these to be series. I'd make them all into one book if i could!

-The entire Ender's Game series, both sides. (Which includes Ender's Shadow and all books following)
-The Harry Potter Series (it'd be a big book, but i'd make it work)
-The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Series (As I understand it, this has already been made into a compendium.)
-The Bible (I've heard this described as the greatest and most controversial book in the world, but I'll sport the Christian Religion)
-The fifth and final choice would be a toss up between The Twilight Series (I'm not sure on the re-readability of these books), The Eragon Series (again, re-readability), and the Everworld Series (I loved them during my youth, I'd want my kids to have a chance to check them out too:))

In my opinion, a truly great book should be something you can read more than once and still enjoy. I've read Ender's Game several times and loved each time just as much as the first.

Not necessarily my favorites but those that would keep me well fed forever:

1) The Bible (contains every story, great writing, endlessly interpretable .. . )
2) Complete Shakespeare (see above)
3) In Search of Lost Time by Proust (I swear this book describes everyone you'll ever meet. Finding a one volume edition would be tough, but it is considered one book by the critics so it counts right?)
4) Ulysses by Joyce (If it was the only game in town I’d finally be able to finish/understand it)
5) Lord of the Rings (Middle Earth is my favorite vacation destination)

My apologies to Catch-22, I hate to leave you behind, but them’s the rules . . .

I'd have to choose:

1) A place to call home by Deborah Smith because I doubt I'll ever move back home & it's a book I read when I'm feeling lost.
2) Chicken Soup for the Canadian Soul - because I am Canadian & it makes me very proud to read the stories in that book.
3) Murphy's Boy by Tory Haden - amazing book about a boy who learned to live in the "normal" world after being so badly treated by everyone in his world.
4) Snow falling on Cedars by David Guterson - great book!
5) A prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving

Just 5! That's almost impossible, but I'll try.....I may cheat a little.

1. The Bible
2. The Book of Mormon
3. The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky
4. Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky.
5. A toss up, but probably Les Miserables by Victor Hugo, or perhaps Uncle Tom's Cabin.
