August book of the month

Post Number:#18  Postby Daphne » 17 Jul 2008, 11:18

Would you please let me know what the August 2008 book of the month is?

I just joined this forum. For August, the off line book club i am in is reading People of the Book, by Geraldine Brooks. I have been signed up at the library for 2 months now - so it is very popular right now!

I, too, would be interested in a book for August.

There has not been a book chosen since I have been a member (although that is a rather short time) so I am not certain how many folks it takes to make this happen.
I would be happy to do any legwork needed.

Anyone up for Snow by Orhan Pamuk or The Professor and the Madman by Simon Winchester?

never heard of them, but that's no reason not to read them :)

Biblioklept - start a new post here for the august book of the month and let's see who joins in.

Cheers,

Thank you, but apparently only moderators can create a new thread in the book club area...and I am not a moderator.

Can a moderator start one for me, please?

Wow, Biblioklept! I looked up both of those books, Snow, and The Professor and the Madman - both look great! Either one of them is fine with me. Good choices - thanks!

August reading

Post Number:#25  Postby Daphne » 18 Jul 2008, 10:33

My book club is reading People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks for August, so that would be a great choice for me - I just looked up an excerpt from it, and it also looks like a good read.

So when the moderator starts a thread, i am fine with Snow, The Professor and the Madman, and People of the Book.

Maybe people vote on this?

Good talking with you!

They will vote...or it may just be the 2 of us. That would still be okay with me.

My book club is reading People of the Book in May so I would vote to push that back a couple of months but that's just me.

Unfortunately I don't have access to this section to start you off for August, so we'll have to wait until site Admin comes back.

Sorry folks!

Can we hijack this thread for our book picking purposes or would you like us to wait for that as well?

I just found out that People of the Book is only out in hardback so far - so it should be pushed out to May, since by then it will be affordable. There is only 1 copy in our city libraries at this point.

Have you read Geraldine Brooks' book March? I read it for book club and thought I would dislike it but was very pleasantly surprised.
