Maud Fitch wrote:Little Brown & Co announced J K Rowling will release her new book on Thursday 27 September 2012.

The publisher has also revealed that this new adult novel will be entitled THE CASUAL VACANCY.
Going against wild speculation, her new venture into adult writing will not fall into the mystery genre. A brief description of the plot indicates that it will be a "blackly comic" tale of rivalry and duplicity in a small English town.

Can Rowling live up to expectations? Can she produce more magic without witches and wizards?

I'm not too sure about this book, the storyline sounds....well pretty boring. (I cant remember where I read the storyline of the book) I was excited when I heard she was releasing a book because I do like the HP books (well love them actually) but now I'm not that eager.......but I'll give it a try and see how it goes *shrugs*

I am huge Harry Potter fan, and am looking forward to the book. I expect it will be good, although I am sure there will be a few people who do not like it because it is a completely different genre then we are use to reading from her.

I was a huge HP fan as a kid, and while I don't expect JKR's new novel will be anything spectacular, I'll read it out of sheer obligation. :P

I am guilty of having high expectations of books and movies and the sort. I am trying very hard to take a chill pill.

Working in a completely different genre, I am interested in seeing how she writes this new book.
If you are not having fun......then what is the point.

J.K. Rowling has also said that she might eventually write another children's book. She is writing two adult ones. If she does write another kids book it will probably be about Harry's Children and Harry's life 10 years later.

Yes! I can't wait to see what she brings to the table for the adult readers. It should be interesting!

Re: JK Rowling announces new novel 'Casual Vacancy'

I haven't, as yet, read the new book 'Casual Vacancy' but thought I'd resurrect this thread to get some decent reviews. Elsewhere, it appears to get two stars because readers unfairly compare it to her previous genre. Or does it rate poorly because of the darkly critical look at modern society, confronting themes and unlikeable characters? I will read it to form my own opinion but in the meantime I would appreciate your comments.

Haven't read it yet but from the reviews I've read I gather it's quite a polemic on social ills

Love the new avatar Maud, it's so fits my image of you
