Having just finished "The Dovekeepers" by Alice Hoffman. I am now starting "The Song of Achilles" by Madeline Miller, shortlisted for the Orange Prize. Expecting big things.

If you are not having fun......then what is the point.

I started reading Memoirs of U.S. Grant. Its 850 pages long, but its simply written so its going pretty fast. It dosent have a lot of unecesary words. Grant was dying from throat cancer from smoking an average of 44 cigars a day so he had to hurry.

Huey, From all accounts received I understand that this is an excellent two volume chronology of Grant's life with emphasis on the Civil War years. I managed to find volume 1 at a book fair but ran into a woman there who wanted it desperately ... so I gave it to her. I hope to find it (complete) someday and actually get to read it *L*

THANK YOU SO MUCH Bighuey !!!! Why didn't I think of that? I'm in the middle of a book which I have to get back to the library and it's 500 pages long, but I am going to download the memoirs now anyway and give them a look. I also want to get into this whole Jasper Fforde thing so the General may get shelved for awhile but I definitely want to read it. I've heard from several sources over the years that it is a great book.
Thanks once again !

Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion. Interesting little zombie book. I just started it, but i'm having problems putting it down. I've heard alot of good things about it, and so far it's keeping me hooked.

Okay Fran, life interrupted my reading there for a while (don't you just hats that?!?!?!) But I've finally finished We Were the Mulvaneys. I can't even begin to say how I feel about it. I definitely have run through the whole gamut of emotions. What a powerful writer. I'm one of the few who are often dissapointed by a happy ending if it just seems to be tacked on to appease the reader. I was starting to worry that it would be that way here, but I was pleasently surprised by the ending. Her realism is astounding. I have to tank you for turning me on to this author.

These books would be something I would love to read. Who published it?

Just starting The Great Gatsby. Looking forward to it but suprised how slim the book is.
There are years that ask questions and years that answer. Zora Neale Hurston.

So glad you enjoyed the Mulvaneys. I don't think Oates has ever let me down, she's a powerful writer.

I'm reading A Dogs Purpose recommended by someone on the forum. Sorry I can't remember who. Started out rather slow but is really getting entertaining. I find myself smiling more & more. Life through the eyes of a dog...really good read.
