I tend to focus when I work on anything and I find music disruptive to the process. I think it may be largely a matter of conditioning. I envy people who can focus narrowly on the object of their work with distractions around them. I have never mastered that art.

I listen to classical, sometimes Dylan Mama & Papas, Pumpkins or Bush help me for some reason get out of a creative funk. Also when writing about the past I listen to music from that time period to help. I do remember one time I ended up typing all lyrics to Tonight Tonight, in the middle of my chapter without realizing it.

I love music...but have to keep to classical pieces or silence when I write. Otherwise end up just listening to the lyrics...~laughing~

I have to have music to write. I can do without it for rewrites, but not for the first draft. I have an entire play list specifically for writing and will switch songs depending on the scene and mood of what what I'm writing. Almost every song has lyrics and I'm quite capable of singing along with the lyrics even while totally absorbed in my story and typing it out on the screen. The lyrics never get in the way.

I have to listen to music to think, it's a fact. When I'm writing I usually play an artist whose music I know by heart, and I have a large amount of.

I can't listen to anything when I write, I'm so invested in what I'm writing that any sound just bothers me, its like a phone ringing when you're in the theater watching a movie.

Hey I just love to listen music while doing some other work (it might be at work in office or writing at home) because it will just keep on relieving us from the mind stress and also help us stay boosted with enough energy.
