SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!Bighuey wrote:I watched one last night, Jarhead. It was about Marines in the Desert Storm operation. Pretty good movie, altho I think some of it was exaggerated. Someone who was there would probably know if it was too extreme or not, if those guys were as as crazy as they were portrayed in the movie.
@Bh. I agree. Some things in the Marine Corps might have changed, but I doubt that acting out sexual fantasies in
public is allowed. If an officer or senior NCO had seen that, the Platoon Sergeant(Foxx) would be on the next C-130
out of there, on his way to the brig. In spite of that, I liked the movie. For me, the real story was Sarsgaard's character.
He joined the Corps "to make something of himself." Nothing matters except his "moment of truth." When he's confronted by the enemy, can he kill them? As it turns out, he's denied the opportunity by an officer(Dennis Hastert)
who calls in an air strike to take out an Iraqi sniper, rather than let Sarsgaard do the job. His reaction to this is
the best(maybe the only) acting in the film. He's incredulous. He's been in the Theater for months and hasn't fired
his weapon!!!!!!!! If there's an award for "Emptiness", this guy should get it. What are your thoughts Bh?
