As you are, Bookwurms, I'm also fond of Patricia Cornwell's Dr Scrapetta series (currently rereading The Body Farm), however I have found the latest offerings in the series not as much to my liking as those from Postmortem to Trace.

The only other series I have read or continue to read with any affection are the Harry Potter and Star Wars novels. I find I get a little too restless and nitpicky with inconsistencies when following a character/s for too long a period...As I am when it comes to TV series and film, too.

These books are fantastic! I read "A Child Called It" in about 2 hours and sobbed pretty much the whole way through.

OT: There's another book called "I Did Tell, I Did" by Cassie Harte which is very similar. Her mother was truly awful to her while the other children in the family escaped the abuse for some reason - well worth a read.

Funny I'm reading the body farm as well at the moment. Not having read any other after this one I can't comment on the ones after Trace but I have read on many forums that the latest offerings aren't as good. I tend to be nitpicky too about inconsistencies, it just feels annoying to me! LOL!

I have been thinking about this thread and remembered a series I read many years ago that I thought was Great, actually - The Well World series by Jack Chalker. I tried to pick up a set to re-read a few years back but could only find a few of them (and in some cases none at all). It may have gone out of print by now. Has anyone out there read it? I may be showing my age here - smile...

Favorite is definitely A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. So well written, and the story is great.

LOVE Stephanie Plum!!! She is one of my favorite series to read.
I also like Harris' vamp series, but her others are also good.
I still carry around Anne Rice's vampire chronicles with me, though I haven't read any of them in a very long time.

I like series because I love getting to know the characters and following them through their lives. I was a little dismayed when Anne Rice ended her vampire novels, but it was time for a new phase in her life, I guess.

I haven't gotten around to Discworld yet, but I have been badgered to do so; that and the Dresden Files I think they are called?

In addition Janet Evanovich´s "Stephanie Plum" series has been accompanying me for the last decade, but it starts to get too repetitiv even for me. Every once in a while I fall back toTerry Pratchett´s dicsworld novels. In the YA section I adore Percy Jackson´s adventures :-)

Yes! I love the Sookie Stackhouse series, and also like the Harper Connelly series, although the first one dragged. I haven't tried the detective ones, are they any good?

For mysteries, I like Elvis Cole (by Robert Crais) and Myron Bolitar (by Harlan Coben). The mysteries are interesting and the two detectives have a good sense of humor. I also like that the characters grow and change. I also like the supporting cast in both of the series.

My favorite fantasy series is the "Wheel of Time." I like the fact that Robert Jordan had this grand vision that he planned out for the series. When he started writing it, he didn't plan for it to run as a continuing series like the mystery series. I've enjoyed discovered more about the characters and the various cultures in the series. Some of the books have been better than other, but they each move the story more towards its conclusion.

Yes, she has over 30 books and they make more sense if you read them in the order she wrote them.

Good on ya Fran. Slowly but surely you are becoming an Ancient Rome fan. I can see it happening as I type. You are right Simon Scarrow's Rome books are very enjoyable. :D
If you are not having fun......then what is the point.
