I like a good scare once in a while especially when it comes from my own imagination due to highly descriptive writing. What are your favoritie books in the horror genre. Some of my favorites are: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Dracula and Scary stories to read in the dark.

Horror isn't my favourite genre but I have to say for sheer psychological creepiness, I can't go passed any novel
written by Joyce Carol Oates.

Stephen King's The Stand.

Oh, I just noticed the plural.
I also love Clive Barker's Books of Blood, anything by H.P. Lovecraft, Dan Simmons' Summer of Night and many more.

Out of the ones I've read (there haven't been many yet) I thought Sarah Waters The Little Stranger was a frightening read - very spooky. James Herbert's Haunted was good and right now I'm reading House of Leaves which even though it's a little slow going there are points where I don't want to look over my shoulder because I think something will be there. It's slowly building up and I can tell it's gonna get scarier....can't wait

Right now? The Stand. I'm having a spat of obsession with it. Otherwise, Dracula, Bag of Bones, Desperation, Haunting of Hill House.

"Night in the Lonesome October" and "Endless Night" both by Richard Laymon are great reads as well as "House of Bones" by Graham Masterton.

IT is also one of my all-time favorite books. I don't always think of it as the scariest,I just love the story. My poor copy is very dog eared and tattered.

The Shining the bit with the maze and topiary animals gets me everytime, and I've read the book about 6 times!

It just sends shudders down my spine, I'm sure it's not even supposed to be the scariest bit but it creeps me out something chronic

Dracula is definately on my list, along with The Stand and just about anything by Jack Ketchum. Joe Hill's Heart Shaped Box was great. There are many more - I have a particular fondness for horror - and apocolyptical books.
