Looking for new PI series

Greetings,

OK, I've read all of Spenser, the Prey series, Alex Cross, John Connelly, Lee Child, and Robert Crais and I'm looking for some new, good series of books featuring private detectives, off the reservation cops/detectives, etc.

Does anyone have and suggestions?

You could try "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" by Stieg Larsson, it's the first book in a trilogy and is well rated.

Yep, I read the Dragon trilogy. 1 and 3 were strong but I thought #2 was weak. I've also stared in on the Dave Robicheaux series by James Lee Burke and the Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly so I'm probably good for a few months.

Highly recommend these books:

Wm. Kent Kreuger (Cork O'Connor series), C.J. Box (Joe Pickett series), Nelson DeMille John Corey series), Martin Cruz Smith (Arkady Renko series), Julie Kramer, Patricia Cornwell (Kay Scarpetta series), John Sanford (Virgil Flowers series)

They are not about Privet Investigators exactly, they are about reporters, rangers, game wardens,police officers, medical examiners, ect. They are all trying to solve murders and or mysteries.

The Harry Bosch series is great, as well as the same author's Lincoln Lawyer books. Try the Nameless Detective series by Bill Pronzini. He's been around for a long time, and there's quite a few books. Tony Hillerman, of course, and Walter Mosley are great. If you're willing to try female authors, some of my favorites are Sue Grafton, Marcia Muller (married to Pronzini), Sarah Paretsky, Ruth Rendel and P.D. James. The last two are British.

If you liked Elvis Cole, you'll like Myron Bolitar. Harlan Coben has the Myron Bolitar series, and as Elvis has his Joe Pike, Myron has his Win. The repartee between Bolitar and Win is funny, and witty. Also, F. Paul Wilson has the Repairman Jack series and David Baldacci has the King and Maxwell series.

Another funny series is the Jack Daniels series from J.A. Konrath. Try these!

Annie. Please read The Inspector Rebus books By Ian Rankin because I have often ended up screaming plaguarism when I read Connelly's books. If you read both series there are far too many similarities for me not to be confused

Both are good reads too though .

would like to suggest Ken Bruen's Jack Taylor series, lots of Irish angst, written in a quick, easy style but with hidden depth; also James Sallis' Lew Griffin series (or anything else by Sallis, who is, in my humble opinion, the best American crime writer at work today)

Starting with Monkeywrench, P J Tracy has written a really good series. Also Jeffrey Deaver's Blue Nowhere is one I couldn't put down.

One of the very best of the best series I've ever read is the Mallory series by carol O"connell. The development of Kathy Mallory's character keeps you coming back for more and more........and she is an "out there" police woman.
But she is so much more than that. If you have not read this series, well get going! I cannot urge you enough.

Since I started this one I figured I should chime in. First of all, thank you for all of the replies.

Va treehugger—I’ve read many of your suggestions. The Cork O’Connor series is very good, as are DeMille and John Sanford. I’ll check out some of the others you mentioned.

Annie—first Harry Bosch book didn’t do a whole lot for me so I may abandon that series. I will check out some of the others you mentioned.

SheikL—Myron Bolitar sounds like what I may be looking for. I will check Coben out. I’ve read all of Baldacci.

Sandman—I’ll pass on the Irish angst but will look into James Sallis.

Geneen Karstens—Deaver is great. If you haven’t read it yet, you should read A Maiden’s Grave. I will look into PJ Tracy.

Don't know how I could have missed one of my very favorite authors - John lescroat. His Dismas Hardy and Hunt Club series are great.
