Need Some Advise?

Post Number:#1  Postby AngelPrincess09 » 28 Oct 2011, 13:50

Hey Writers and Readers!

I'm new to the whole writing thing? What would be the best way to crack into it? Something to get my teeth into? A fan fic? A story? Diving into the minds of a character from a soap? Writing thoughts? Any information or shared experiences would be helpful?

Anything at all? Would appreciate taking a look. And maybe jotting down some advice?

Hope to hear from you!

Maybe a personal essay? Say things about your self, your family or anything you can think of. Your writing will improved if you know what you're writing. Then, you're comfortable writing you can research a topic and write about it.

If you don't know what to write, try searching with the keyword "Writing Prompts".

Two major things for a beginner in writing...

Dreams can sometimes lead to amazing stories, I learned this a long time ago. Keep a pad by your bed and every time you have a dream that you don't want to forget just quickly jot down a main plot and key words.

This is actually how Spielberg and Cameron have created alot of their screenplays and ideas.

Brainstorm! Let the flow of words and ideas come out. Don't worry about punctuation or anything just the words, the text, your creation.

Later, come back and revisit...if its a story...do an outline. A story has exposition, the heart and depth, subplots, falling action, a climax and a resolution.

Go back later and fix your punctuation and format when the creative part is at a standstill.

A rough draft is just that...rough.

Find out if there's a writers group near you. I found face-to-face contact worked for me. A writers group can offer writing classes, discussion groups, writing competitions, advice on grammar, technique and help with publication. Also, on-the-spot editing!

I think one of the best ways to start is what my creative writing teacher used to go, " I'll be your mirror" basically you describe yourself through the eyes of someone else. It is introspective without being indulgent, it is inspirational, it can be deep or funny or scratch the surface of character sketching. It is very beneficial and a good activity.

Peace and Love,

I just finished my first novel ( Vengeance Is Sacred ) and I can only suggest that you pick your genre and topic . . then just start writing. The story will come to you as you begin to find the direction it takes you. Keep it simple, then add your subplots and find a way to connect them all together. If you have an area that perks your interest such as paranormal or science, keep on the alert for information, newspaper articles, newscasts, etc and try to incorporate the ideas into your story. Try to capture why it was interesting to you and carry that into your writing. Many times a story doesn't know where to begin, however, don't wait to find out . . . or you'll never start. You can correct everything, including the order of events, after it's all down on paper. Good luck to you.

When I first started writing, I did some free articles for small newspapers. This gave me clippings and credits that I could then use to get paying projects. It worked well for me because when I finally applied for a full-time newspaper job, I had experience in a lot of different areas. I got the job although I didn't have a journalism degree and I went on to win a lot of awards for the paper.

Hope that helps some. Good luck!

I started out writing short stories because they are easier to wrap your head around and keep your focus. I would start by imagining someone in a certain situation, any situation really and then work out how and why they are there. From there I would build up on what could happen to that person, what I wanted to know about them. I find that I'll rapidly become caught up in writing it and I'll be able to know where I want the story to end up.

To get success in your aim you have to start writing when you are in fresh mood and only write those things which your heart tends to you.

In writing, there is force and there is flow. You have to understand the difference between these before you can refine your talents with the pen.

I think I know what you mean, but could you possibly define these terms in reference to writing?
