I've only had my kindle3 for 3 months, but it has now become a good for nothing frozen piece of slate. I hear that the freezing thing is a big problem with kindles. And this all happened just a week ago, as soon as I turned on my kindle after two grueling weeks of exams. Can you imagine my disappointment! Although I enjoyed the text-to-speech feature of the kindle, I suggest you get a kobo, especially if you live in Canada. You could easily visit the nearest Chapters for any problems or repair. Now I have to get through to kindle customer service so that I can send my kindle over to them and wait (Idk how long) to get it back repaired. :(

I have an Aluratek reader, and sometimes it freezes up, especially after I put something on it. But it has a restore button, and I found if I take the chip out and restore it, it works fine. I dont know if Kindles or any of the others have it, but mine is also an MP3 player, it even has a place for background music. Im happy with it.

I have had a kindle for a year now and loved every minute of it! :) I have never experienced any issues with it at all. I also love the smell and feel of books and even though i have my kindle you will find me reading a actual book more often then naught. I read a lot of books both on my kindle and real books. To me a book is a book no matter what form it comes in.

love my new kindle fire. I've been reading non-stop with my headphones on while Sigur Ros radio plays on pandora. havent explored past the reading/music combo much but im excited to use it for playing music, etc. I love my book shelves and shoving my nose in a book as much as anyone here, but this thing is pretty cool.

I've had my kindle for almost a year and I love it. It hasn't changed my love of the paper page, it's just another means of reading. I have shelves of books waiting to be read, and over 200 books on my kindle - all I need to do is find the time to read them all.

I have a kindle and I love it. but I only use it sometimes because I love books WAY too much. I love my kindle but it'll always come second to my library of books

Do you have the new Kindle Fire? Do you like that? How does it compare to the old Kindle?

oops I see TugzMc you like it. Sounds great. Think I will have to look into it. Is there anything else I should know?

I don't have the Kindle Fire, but my mom does and she loves it, even though she always said she never would get into the Kindle Fire. If you want apps then go with the Fire. But if you don't care for apps and what the "pages" of books to look more like books, I would go for the normal Kindle

I bought my Kindle about a month ago and I agree that it is especially good when away from home. I take "private documents" with me, not only books. Any pdf or doc file can easily be turned into a "private document" on a Kindle.

Yep, I luv my Kindle. Received it as a Christmas gift the year before last. It's very handy to take in my purse or to use when I'm sleepy and don't want to hold a heavy book.

I got a kindle 2 years ago when I had to take a 7 hour flight to Vegas. Needless to say, it was a lifesaver.

As convenient as it is, I really do still love the feel, smell, and look of a fresh book in my hands. My bookshelf is currently sagging because I can't seem to part with books I've even read over and over.

The kindle, or any e-reader I'm sure, is fantastic for travel, taking subways like myself, and just keeping a few books with you at a time instead carrying the real thing. I would never give up my book collection for it though. It is solely for convenience purposes.

Yes, convenience is the magic word. Sometimes I'll have a library book. I won't take a library book out with me. I'm afraid the book will get lost in an office or fall out of the car. This is when a Kindle comes in handy for me.

I got a Kindle Fire for Christmas and now I feel like it is an extension of my arm and I couldn't live without it. Unfortunately it did shut itself off one day and wouldn't turn back on but the store replaced it and because I had it registered everything that was on my first one came up automatically on my new one, IT EVEN SAVED THE PLACE IN THE BOOK I WAS READING! I highly suggest buying one. :D

Interesting thread and verifies what my own research as a budding author confirmed - digital is the way to go! So my first novel is out using Amazon Direct Publishing and to satisfy those who prefer a physical book it'll be out as 'print on demand' through CreateSpace when the rather long-winded process is completed. Have to say that publishing on Kindle was fairly easy in comparison :D

Having seen and used the Kindle it's easy to see how it's taken off - thousands of books in one little device and no dusting :D

PS - I have submitted my novel to the review panel (trembles in anticipation of the result - )
