That's a bit pointless ... wouldn't it be better to read slower & understand & enjoy the book. I fail to see the point of reading at speed just to be able to say you read the book!

It depends on if I like the book or not. Most books get better as they go along, but sometimes when Im really into a book, I can't put it down and can get through it faster.

I've been known to take hours and hours to finish a short book like 300 pages. I'm not a really fast reader but I also don't just read for hours upon hours like some do. But if the book is really good I've finished a book in about 24hours.
When a good book captures me then, I know I've found happiness.

It took me 5 years to finish Homer's Odyssey. I read the Illiad in abiut 2 days, but for some reason I couldnt stick with the Odyssey. Id read a few pages, put it up for 6 months, read a few more, put it up for another 6 months. After it got to the part where Odyessus got back to Ithica, and found all those guys trying to make time with his wife, it really picked up and got exciting. I read the rest of it in one sitting. But the first three quarters were so boring and draggy.

It all depends on what I am reading, whether or not the book has me locked in, and how much time I have. I usually average a book every two weeks. Depends on my mood, my time, and length of the book as well.

I can read pretty fast actually, I used to take tests in high school and I was one of the top readers, and still could understand everything that I had read. Now, I don't read that fast unless I'm like making class notes or something. But I do read pretty fast, I can read about three or four chapters in about 45 minutes.

Your read "The Illiad" in a couple of days. Holy Moly Bighuey that is an amazing effort. I take my hat off to you, I have had if for years and have still not finished it. Probably about 3/4 through it. :)

I do tend to read fast when I'm really into a book/series.

I read the first 4 books in the House of Night series, plus more than half of Wicked Lovely within a week. Now these are YA books so a bit more easy reading, but still o_0

Usually I can get a page and a half done a minute. Some writing styles trip me up though for some reason, like I read Gabriel Garcia Marquez's books much slower than a Haruki Murakami book for some reason.
