If it doesn't flow with the inspiration, then it interupts. If I'm composing furious battle view, entire with storm and body-fluid, Pantera is fine- but that might interupt a digression on my love life. I manage like opera and academic, but I'm alright with lyrics too

I think that always music inspires the writer... But it's difficult for me to find the right music to my state of mind...

I used to when I wrote "The Ten-Day Forecast" (available on amazon). But not anymore so much. I'm generally in public when I write and have to listen to the soundtrack over the speakers at whatever coffee shop I'm in. If I need a mood for a specific part I'll have a song ready to go.

I like "Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain" soundtrack written by Yann Tiersen. I listen to it when I'm writing my tales...

I have listened to music while writing, but generally I like complete quiet and minimal distraction so I can lose myself in the world I'm writing about. I write stories that have an historical element and sometimes I have found it useful to listen to music from the period I'm writing about.

I'm usually in public when I compose and have to hear to the soundtrack over the speakers at anything coffee shop I'm in. If I require a feeling for a exact part I'll have a recital prepared to go.

I play music while I write, only because the silence distracts me more then anything! I wish I had more classical music to listen though because sometimes I type the words in the song rather then the ones in my head

I really enjoy listening to classical or piano music while I write, also. It helps me keep all of my exterior thoughts (ex: chores, work, etc.) on SILENT MODE which enables me to focus on my internal thoughts. It nourishes my imagination and I am able to then write whatever I am feeling at that moment.
