RUBY RED is the young adult novel debut for German author KERSTIN GIER. Filled with the perfect combination of romance, intrigue, time travel, and humor, it takes readers on a journey through the past, present, and an unusual family history. When we meet sixteen-year-old Gwen, she is living with her extended—and eccentric—family in a present day, exclusive London neighborhood. She’s had a relatively normal life so far, in spite of her ancestors’ peculiar past. The time-traveling gene that runs like a secret thread through the female half of the family is supposed to have skipped Gwen. So it comes as an unwelcome surprise when she starts taking sudden leaps into the past.

You must understand the whole of life, not just one little part of it. That is why you must read, that is why you must look at the skies, that is why you must sing and dance, and write poems and suffer and understand, for all that is life.

I have taken the nominations and posted a a topic to vote for the November 2011 book of the month. That vote will be open for about 10 days from the time of this post. I have also started the topic thread to discuss the current book of the month, A Stolen Life.

Please continue nominating books to be book of the month. Currently, nominations are for the December book of the month.
