We're following each other now. :)
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference

Thanks! Still leaning how to use it properly. Not quite convinced we all are not marching around in a big circle, shouting our book url's at each other :)

I know. I feel the same way. :)

I wonder what would happen if I were to just randomly pick someone who likes to read romances. I know there's a hashtag for #romance. I should try it and see. :eusa-think:

I'm going to try it and see. Type in #romance in the search box and see if I can get someone who isn't another writer.

Thank you for following me. You are my 100th follower!

I like Twitter. I try not to do too much self-promotion there, though - I get annoyed when someone I'm following does nothing but post repetitively about something they're selling, so I don't want to do that to others.

I love twitter. It's a great way to advertise yourself, if you can build up your followers! Twitter is something you have to constantly work at to obtain more followers, but if your looking to promote yourself, this is an amazing, free way.

Twitter scares me.

Why?

I read So You've Been Publicly Shamed, which is a book about various people whose reputations were destroyed in a day, never to be recovered. One was because of a misunderstood tweet. Knowing my big mouth, it could happen to me. <rueful smile>

I still haven't joined. I'm hoping that it dies out as a phenomenon before I find a compelling reason to.

All the same, thanks for the helpful tips. I can see how it could be useful for an author, as long as you restricted your tweets to professional topics.

PS Great post title.

Twitter's been an interesting journey, that's for sure. It always depends on getting the right phrases down. I've been using analytics and am blown away by the impressions my tweets supposedly make - who's viewing them when I don't have hash tags and what not? But that aside, wonderful article :)

Of course I am one of your followers already, and vice versa. Yes, twitter is a nice tool. I have it linked into my facebook but do choose to only keep active certain tweets on the FB timeline.

I linked it to mine, too. I'm not sure I like it overall. Thankfully, it's easy to delete posts on Facebook and I haven't had any problems.

I've recently started using Twitter, though I refuse to do it by phone. It's on my computer, at home when and if I wish to go there. Social media can rule your life! And my favorite website for shortening Internet addresses is Bitly. I haven't tried the others you mention in the post, because this one works so easily.

Thank you for this helpful article! I never understood hashtags either when I first started on Twitter, but now it seems a lot more clear! Now I know they are a good searching tool. Thanks!
