What music do you listen too when you write

This is the place for readers of poetry. Discuss poetry and literary art. You can also discuss music here, including lyrics. Also, you can discuss poets themselves, in addition to poetry.

I listen to pretty much anything when I write. Usually I will put my iTunes on shuffle and see what comes up. I don't have a particular artist that I put on.

I listen to classical music. I had a lit teacher in school who used to play Mozart for us and I guess it stuck.

It depends on what I'm writing :) If I'm writing about something sad, or that has to do with love, I usually pick Evanescence, Christina Perri, etc. But if I'm writing more of action parts, or suspenseful things, I usually lean toward Bullet for my Valentine and stuff like that

When I write I listen to classical music, mostly Chopin. But I also listened to Secret Chiefs 3, I actually write quite well when they are on... or I pick a song I like and I play it on repeat, so it creates a protective background noise.

TIGERSPRITE wrote:I prefer songs without lyrics too. But I don't mind some Coldplay, because they're usually slow songs. Or something faster during action scenes.
I second this.
Coldplay not only is calm, but is inspirational to me, so it works out perfectly.

I don't listen to music when I write but if I did it would classical. I might try that some time it may help whenever I have
writer's block.

I don't listen to music... but I am hearing a lot about how it can help with writing a particularly thematic scene in a book so maybe I will try it. Excited to do so!

I usually listen to Gregorian chant, or industrial metal. Disturbed, Slipknot, Korn and similar bands/artists.

Music in a different language so that I don't concentrate on what the music is saying, and I concentrate on my work.

“there have been so many times
i have seen a man wanting to weep
but
instead
beat his heart until it was unconscious.

-masculine”
