Do you have a song, that helps you through a tough time?

Do you have a song, that helps you through a tough time?

Post by IReadJSherman »

Music sticks in my head. Whenever I'm reluctant to do something, perhaps feeling shy, or thinking it won't be fun, I plug into my mind the song "It's Alright Have a Good Time" by Curtis Mayfield. Somehow this helps my brain relax & forget whatever was holding me back.

Any other songs that help us persevere?

I don't really have one in particular, sometimes it just depends on the genre that will help me.

Miserable at best by Mayday Parade helps me kind of cope whenever I feel sad and down.

I know this is probably odd but when I want to relax, I'll listen to dubstep. Maybe it's the rhythm that get me relaxed. Lol

Greetings IReadJSherman,

To be honest, my life is practically a soundtrack given how much music I listen to. I listen to music when I am happy, sad, angry, calm, energetic, etc. It is hard for me to not listen to music when I feel any emotion at all, but when times are tough, those are the times when music is especially needed.

I suppose there are different songs that can help someone through a tough time. Here are a small percent of mine:

"This Is War" by Thirty Seconds to Mars
"Family First" by Woe, Is Me
"Heroes" by David Bowie
"On Top of the World" by Imagine Dragons
"I Am" by AWOLNATION
"A Welcome" by Qualia
"Newly Risen, How Brightly You Shine" by This Patch of Sky
"Could Have Been Me" by The Struts
"Road of Resistance" by Babymetal
"Rise" by A Skylit Drive
"How The Day Sounds" by Greg Laswell
"Get Up" by Barcelona
"Into The Wild" by LP
"Playing Dead" by Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!
"I Love It" by Icona Pop (this one if a guilty pleasure)
"We Are Golden" by Mika
"Closer to the Edge" by Thirty Seconds to Mars
"Outsiders" by Against the Current
"Follow My Voice" by For All Those Sleeping
"Holocene" by Bon Iver
"Awake My Soul" by Mumford and Sons
"Walk" by Foo Fighters

There are honestly way too many to list here. I probably listed too many anyway :lol2:

However, I hope that if you are going through a tough time, at least one of these songs can help you. They certainly help me every day...

The song "To Build a Home" by the cinematic orchestra is one of my all-time favorite songs. Not only is the meaning behind the song incredibly beautiful, but the instrumental arrangement is breathtaking. I remember seeing a video where Neil DeGrasse Tyson explains the most astounding fact and this song played in the background, and this video moved me to tears. It explains how we all come from the atoms and stardust of the universe. He says that when he looks up at the night sky, instead of feeling small he feels big because we are all made up of the same stuff as the stars and the earth and the entire universe. I think music in any form is amazing because it has the power to change you. It can change the way you feel and think, and ultimately, it brings people together.

Some of the songs that always comfort me are Dream of You by Fearless Vampire Killers, Here Comes The Sun by the Beatles (also the Ghost version,) and basically any song by Twenty One Pilots.
It depends on the situation, because I may choose songs that lift me up or just that give me hope or motivation.

I always end up going back to my Catholic roots and listening to up beat church music like "Breathe" and "Canticle of the Sun". However, I also got hooked on listening to the recent Disney hit "Let it Go". I know it's a Disney song but some days it really does make me feel like I need to let certain emotions go to move past a specific time in my life.

Nickelback's song, "Lullaby" is the one I listen to when my depression grabs me too tightly. And when I'm just feeling depressed no matter what I do, I listen to Third Day's Grace's songs "Painkiller," "So What," "Fallen Angel," and "Tell Me Why." Somehow, depressing songs can help my depression.

The songs that help me the most if I may. God's Amazing Grace and Amazing Grace. They consoles me because we don't deserve His grace but He gives it to us freely and that's AMAZING.

I try to stay away from depressing songs as in my personal experience, they hurt me more than help :-( I enjoy Here Comes a Thought (from Steven Universe LOL), a cover by Nathan Sharp (NateWantsToBattle on Youtube). Extremely reassuring and patient song; I love it and it helps me to not give up on myself! :-)
