Les Friction instrumental music! They are a band but I love to listen to their instrumental music while I read and write for that matter.

I usually prefer silence when I read, but when there is a lot of background noise I just usually turn on the radio to a pop station.

I've been hooked on the Chillhop genre as of late. Chillhop Music has their own channel on Spotify so you have a lot to choose from. They're usually hip-hop beats that contain jazz elements and some electronic music on the side, cool stuff.

Am I the only one who can't read while listening to music? I need total silence while I read, I just can't concentrate.

I love listening to ragtime music while I am reading just about anything. I usually pick channels on Pandora and just persevere through the commercials.

This is an interesting thread! I didn't think so many people listened to music while they read. I find it impossible to have music on while I read, I prefer a nice quiet setting, otherwise I cannot concentrate.

I like light music for reading. However, classical music would just put me to sleep. I prefer maybe soft rock, country, some light pop. SO that way it's has a little more going on to keep me awake. The only time I really listen to music while reading is if the neighbor's dog is barking.

It depends on the genre and the particular scene I am reading. If I am reading something emotional, like loneliness, then I listen to sad songs about being alone or feeling alone. For fighting scenes I like intense dramatic music. I just like to match up the scenes with lyrics and music. Sometimes I listen to songs in different languages, despite not being fluent in the language.

I never listen to music while reading and have no intention of doing so as well. I just want to sit back and read the book without any distractions.

I feel that any music genre you like is good for reading. I personally can listen to anything while reading, but it does depend on my mood as to what I choose to listen to.

Any chill beats that you can find on SoundCloud really make the experience a lot better. Not only do they let you detox from the stress of the day, but it also allows you to really focus on what you're reading.

I have never thought about having music on while I read. I think I might try some of your suggestions.

Sometimes I just need a bit of back ground noise when I'm reading so I find it best to have something without lyrics so I usually pick a movie score.
