This is the place for readers of poetry. Discuss poetry and literary art. You can also discuss music here, including lyrics. Also, you can discuss poets themselves, in addition to poetry.

Actually, I have found that rappers have an amazing way with words. They often use it for evil by writing songs that have vile, offensive lyrics, but they have talent, for sure.

I really like that Eminem song, Lose Yourself.

Agreed, it can be used for good. My friend recently played me The ill mind of Hopsin #5 and I loved it because he makes fun of rap and rappers and promiscuity. He even tells them they are too lazy and they need to read books or learn an instrument instead of being entitled. Great song

Rap is most definitely poetry. It is a creative way for someone to let out they're feelings using words and literary devices. It might not all be that good but neither is all poetry.

I believe it is. Its an entertaining form of it too. Its rhyming and that counts as poetry.

I think it is. It reminds me of slam poetry. Same feel and same sense of raw emotions. But in order to appreciate it I also think you have to know the difference between "real" rap and the crap they are putting out today. The underground Rap Cd's and people such as J Cole, and Naz rap about deeper things than just money and big booties. haha

Yes, of course it is. Any words written with the intent of being poetry are poetry... like it or not.

Although I really do not enjoy rap, I do think it is a form of poetry.

Rap is undeniably poetry. It's popular poetry.

I think this is a subjective question. Personally, I think some rap can be poetry, but some definitely aren't.

I think it's all based on perspective, but I think it is! Rap is just another form of telling a story, of someone's struggles and life experiences, just like poetry!

I certainly think rap is poetry just with music. When rappers "tag" each other, I like to think of it much how poets tag one another in their poems and try to "out do" each other.

It can be, depending on the song. like the song Crossroads - by Bone thugs and Harmony - only song i like of them, for me if its got a rhythm to their lyrics - but for me some of the hardcore rap is not poetry, now poetry is not all about rhyming - but when the artist has a nice flow to their rap - then it can be poetry to my ears.

I do think that rap is poetry in a way. Some things are difficult to understand in both while others have deep meanings.
When people say you've changed, it just means that you have stopped living your life, their way.
