My favorite Christmas song is Silent Night. This song has always been a tradition in our family. When I hear it I know that Christmas is fast approaching; Josh Groban sings it beautifully..

And it means that sometimes Christmas can be sad/lonely for some...me included :(
Oh, I see. That is indeed sad if one is sad at such a blessed, happy time. :| So be happy! :D

My grandfather used to listen to a collection of Christmas songs by opera singer Mario Lanza (many of you may not have heard of him--he died in 1959). The songs are all traditional renditions and are very beautiful, plus they bring back wonderful childhood memories. I managed to find a copy of this Christmas album a few years back and have continued the tradition. Surprisingly, my ten-year-old son really enjoys it!

Like many of you have already said, I believe that Christmas songs just aren't the same when they are redone by contemporary artists. I prefer traditional renditions, and for the most part, I prefer Christmas songs that actually talk about Jesus. Some non-religious ones are cute (gotta love "Grandma Got Runover by a Reindeer"), but I'm a person of faith and I like my Christmas music to reflect that.

This made me think of the quote from Harry Potter about being able to feel several things at once...
That made me smile...mission accomplished russell!

I love religious Christmas songs but there are also so many non-religious songs that are great as well.
I always love a good mix of both...

"I Saw Mamma Kissing Santa Clause" is just too cute too resist!

Has anyone heard "The Gift" by Garth Brooks?
This is such a beautiful song...I wish there were more versions of it.

I agree about "I Saw Mamma Kissing Santa Claus," it is a very cute song! My husband is a big country music fan, so I'll ask him if he's heard "The Gift"

I was raised in a pretty religious household, so Christmas would always make my mom depressed because she wanted it to reflect our religion instead of the emphasis of presents and such that seem to be the highlight for everyone. She always loved the Elvis songs!

I think that's a great tradition! It sounds like a fun way to teach children about the true meaning of Christmas!

Favorites?
I listen to Bing Crosby & Frank Sinatra's Christmas albums the most...My favorite Christmas song is Baby, It's Cold Outside. But I also love the classic songs (O Holy Night, etc.)
What they mean to you?
I grew up in Church and still attend...so there is something extra comforting about certain traditional Christmas songs.
Who do you wish would release a Christmas/holiday cd?
This is a tough one... I'm not sure..But my guilty pleasure Christmas Album is NSYNC's... oh yeah I just admitted that!

My fav is "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)", a song written by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, released in 1971 as a single by John & Yoko/Plastic Ono Band with the Harlem Community Choir.

Love this one too

I have a soft spot for Bert McCracken's version
But it's always a good song

I was seriously rocking out to the Christmas music playing at TGI Fridays the other day. They even played Hanson! 8)
