I thought Leonard could not really sing. Is he better live, or was it the emotion in his voice that got to you?

The dance and if tomorrow never comes by garth brooks because a girl I'd known since kindergarten sang Garth's friends in low places during a lip singing competition during our senior year in high school and a year later was gone due to a guy looking at the wrong house for his ex girlfriend killing my friend and injuring her roommate. I still can't listen to any of these songs without getting a tear in my eye. She wanted to be a nurse or teacher I believe. She may have been safe had she been in a dorm but she lived off campus. I have never forgotten this or her and it's been 22 years.

I don't think he ever claimed to be a great singer, indeed in one of his songs he pokes fun at his vocal ability, but he is a brilliant song writer & absolutely superb in live performance. He doesn't just sing a song he performs it and, for me anyway, I can feel all the emotion and depth of feeling that went into its composition.

Leonard performing Hallelujah live ... spine chilling & one of the most emotional moments of my life[/quote] "

ABSOLUTELY!....I shared the exact same experience when he appeared live here in my hometown! 8)

Tegami by Angela Aki. It really makes me cry as a teenager because it's so real and true. It's in Japanese but just google 'tegami angela aki mv with subs' and it should be the result right under the videos. Gosh I just listened to it and it made my heart swell again. >A<;

The 1973 song, "Teen Angel" by Mark Dinning. I was in high school and had heard this song being played in the performing arts studio during class. I didn't weep uncontrollably, but the song did give me goose bumps and I did shed a tear. It can be a very emotional song if you listen to it, and try and put your self into that scenario.

I haven't heard that song before. I might have to check it out. Anything and everything in life is worth trying once; well, with in reason. ;)

There were several tracks from the "Lord of the Rings" soundtrack that made me cry, and they still bring tears to my eyes when I hear them. The alto and high soprano soloists sing with heartbreaking solemnity.

By the way, casper, I LOVE Puccini's "La Boheme," especially the latest recording with Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazon. They are just so amazingly passionate together. What sadness! And it's great!

Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton - beautiful poignantly sad song, especially when you know it is based on his own personal loss.
Can never hear it without crying.

Another one personally for me: Papa's going to buy me a mocking bird.
Not a particularly sad song in itself - but I had a work colleague who died tragically at age 33.
His daughter, then aged about 8, sang a solo rendition of this at the funeral. Was several years ago now but to this day, I cannot think of that song without a tear.

I haven't yet come across any songs that made me cry, but I haven't heard any of the songs listed here before, either. But Think Twice by Celine Dion came close.

Wow, this is a great thread. Music really touches me and as hard as I try to not be emotional, it does not always work. :(
Here are just a few songs that have made me cry.

Leaves in the Wind: Isaac Shepard
True Colors: Phil Collins
If it Means a lot to You: A Day to Remember
Human Nature: Michael Jackson

Believe me, there are many, many more, but I decided to spare you guys the misery of me going on forever. :D
