Allman Brothers Author Chat

Post by Loveabull »

I'll write more on this tomorrow night. One of the more popular bands of the late 60's into the 70's was The Allman Brothers Band. There is a new book on them called "One Way Out", the author will be speaking at a local book shop tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it.
I scanned the book but didn't buy it. I have Greg Allman's autobiography and for his stoner demeanor it's quite well written actually. One of those books that makes you feel like the subject is just sharing stories with you alone...breezy, funny, sometimes tragic. In comparison this book is an oral history by the surviving band members themselves.
Duane Allman and Berry Oakley both died in eerily similar circumstances in the early seventies. Dickey Betts had conflicts with the band and grew distant. But this book manages to round everyone up and let them tell history in their own words. On a side note...IMHO Butch Trucks is one of the all time best performer names for the genre

Actually I missed the event. If it had been about say The Band I would have made the effort to get there. Like I said for anyone interested, the Greg Allman book is very good.
