Can't remember who sings it but the song is "painted on my heart". I think its by the cult. Love it. Look it up.

Just a small town girl, living in a lonely world.......
If I didn't write, I'd never sleep.

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

''The way things are'' wins it for me :). It's the title of my most personal song ever.

"I rather live in his world than live without him in mine"
..... Midnight train to Georgia
We fade away, but vivid in our eyes
A world is born again that never dies.

"Hello darkness my old friend
I've come to talk with you again."
This has always intrigued me I find myself writing it in notebooks all the time.

Faded and worn, ragged and torn
Just a bundle of old love letters
I kiss each one and though Im pretending
Its a beautiful play with an unhappy ending

Weary and blue, I read them through
There all I have now of you
Teardrops of mine, between every line
Just a bundle of love letters.

A Bundle of Old Love Letters by Frank Luther and the High Hatters. Maybe a little sappy, but still nice.

Oooh, good question! One of my favourites is in the song Morning Bound Train by Jimmy Rankin, which is a song about insomnia. It goes like:

"I can't sleep at night, climbing the walls to the beat of the rain."

I heard one the other day that was a little different. Was That The Human Thing to Do by Rudy Vallee. It came out around 1930, its about a guy who was dumped by his girl and he really had some biting comments about her. I think the girl would have crawled out under the door.

I showed my heart to the doctor: he said I just have to quit.
Then he wrote himself a prescription,
and your name was mentioned in it!
Can anyone guess who wrote that?

(Hint: songwriter/poet who is known for a smooth, darkly evocative style[no Googling! for answer]).

My favorite line is from "Waiting for the End" by Linkin Park. "Picking up the pieces. Now where to begin? The hardest part of ending is starting again."

When love puts you through the fire
When love puts you through the test
Nothing heals a broken heart like Time Love and Tenderness
Youll think your world is over, baby just remember this
Nothing heals a broken heart like Time Love and Tenderness
:Michael Bolton

There's a lot that come to mind. but this is at the top of my ultimate lyrics and songs because somehow I always end up broken hearted and in need of a reminder to take it a day at a time. :D
