I've always loved Shel Silverstein. I think it's because he was the first poet I was ever introduced to. My mom had a few books of his poetry when I was little. I read all of the books she had from cover to cover.

I am always very intrigued by the way William Blake uses animal and other imagery to describe people, such as in "The Lamb" and "The Tyger"... I found William Blake's works thanks to Thomas Harris describing Blake's Great Red Dragon series of paintings :) It's always extremely exciting to me to see how different methods of art expression can relate to each other.

Roque Dalton is my favorite poet. I love not only his story and what his poems represent and fight for, but his use of imagery and the dark stories they tell.

My Favorite poem is 'If I can stop one heart from breaking' by Emily Dickinson.

If i can break one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If i can ease one life the aching,
or cool one pain,
or help one fainting robin
Unto its nest again,
I Shall not live in vain.

My favorite poet is e.e. cummings. I'm always in awe of how gracefully he breaks "the rules" of structure and punctuation. Not everything he writes is totally coherent, but they always make me feel something. My personal favorite by him is "i have found what you are like" because it showcases how he has mastered the art of stirring up emotion in the reader.

Emily Dickinson was my first love, but my current favorite is Robert Frost. I love his simple style and beautiful imagery. Also worth mentioning: William Wordsworth and Mary Oliver. I'm not sure I could pick a favorite poem!

Oh, that is a good one! I actually had part of it stuck in my head the other day, like a song.

E.E. Cummings has been my number one since my Sophomore year of High School and our class read somewhere i have never traveled,gladly beyond. I've also loved W.B. Yeats for a long time too.
Be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the Universe, no less than the trees and the stars. In the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. -Max Ehermann
