The convict connection in Australia can be a touchy point. Many Aussies tracing their family tree get excited these days to find a convict connection. But I'm SOUTH Australian, and our colony was founded by free settlers, unlike most other states. However, I did find out that my great great grandfather, who came to South Australia from England in 1850, had spent 12 months in jail as a lad for destroying some farming equipment. :o
It might be that to surrender to happiness was to accept defeat, but it was a defeat better than many victories.
