SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!
@Bh. I agree. Some things in the Marine Corps might have changed, but I doubt that acting out sexual fantasies in
public is allowed. If an officer or senior NCO had seen that, the Platoon Sergeant(Foxx) would be on the next C-130
out of there, on his way to the brig. In spite of that, I liked the movie. For me, the real story was Sarsgaard's character.
He joined the Corps "to make something of himself." Nothing matters except his "moment of truth." When he's confronted by the enemy, can he kill them? As it turns out, he's denied the opportunity by an officer(Dennis Hastert)
who calls in an air strike to take out an Iraqi sniper, rather than let Sarsgaard do the job. His reaction to this is
the best(maybe the only) acting in the film. He's incredulous. He's been in the Theater for months and hasn't fired
his weapon!!!!!!!! If there's an award for "Emptiness", this guy should get it. What are your thoughts Bh?

Thats what I thought. It seemed that those guys were way out of line. No kind of discipline, they were just an unruly mob. If they were in combat conditions, it makes you wonder how they would handle it. The Sarsgaard character was the best acting, the rest of them were kind of wooden. Especially the main character, he didnt seem to be up to much. But it was an entertaining movie, just good fantasy.

I watched one called Joe last night with Peter Boyle and a young Susan Sarandon. Strange movie, made in 1972 and was about the hippie generation. Didnt make a lot of sense, but Peter Boyle was good as a redneck who wanted to kill all the hippies. It was far from being the best movie I ever saw, but it was interesting in that it showed the feelings of a lot of people from that era.

I remember that one(I think). "When theyre not groovin they're screwin'" Didn't Joe team up with a guy
whose daughter(Sarandon) had runoff with hippies? They raid a house full of hippies and he shoots and kills his own
daughter. Correct?

I think the Klan is probably dead. They're mostly symbolic. Like a confederate flag on a license plate.TTLY

Silent films are a little tricky to watch, but after a while you get used to them. You learn to anticipate what they are saying. As you get into it, I think you will find that it picks up and gets kind of exciting. There are some very good silent films, one in paticular is called The Crowd. Its considered one of the best.

One of the weirdest ones, even by todays standards, is Erich Von Stroheim's Greed. Zazu Pitts played a real nutso. Its about a woman who inherits a bunch of money, but is obsessed with it. She keeps it in a bag and wont spend any of it, even though her and her husband are living in poverty, and at one point have to live on dog meat. She dumps the money out on the bed while her husband is gone, and talks and sings to it like a slobbering idiot. Strange movie.
