Watched Brooklyn last night - a nice movie but honestly I really don't see why it's getting such acclaim. But then I didn't think the book was Colm Tóibín's best either.
Saoirse Ronan was good but IMHO certainly not an oscar performance - I loved Julia Walters as the landland though.

The original Godzilla movie from 1954. Not a bad movie, kind of dark and depressing compared to some of the later Godzilla movies but still enjoyable. Those movies were the most popular movie series of all time, they have been around for 60 years and they are still cranking them out. I read where they would spend months and millions of dollars building a minature of Tokyo then dress a guy up in a Godzilla suit and stomp it all to pieces in a short time. Like most series like that some were quite good and some were crap. But for the most part they are fun to watch.

Thats true. I havent seen all of them, but even the bad ones are watchable. Except Mechagodzilla 2, it was terrible. The only thing it had going for it was the soundtrack music, it was pretty good.

I think that whenever they realized that they were making a bad movie in Japan, they would just change the script to include Godzilla to save the movie.

When I was a kid I used to walk about three miles to the Riviera Theater to see Godzilla movies on Saturday afternoons. Little did we know it was a porno theater during the week!

And we thought the floor was sticky because of spilled soda.

I remember stuff like that. There was the Rex theater in our town that showed what they called back then adult movies. No one under 18 allowed, but that was a joke. If you had the price of a ticket you could get in. They were mostly strip movies and foregn movies that were suggestive, not even as bad as what they show on TV today. A standing joke was about old guys in long overcoats who would sit in the back row and..... well, you know what I mean. I bet that floor was really messy.
