Anyone a fan of Mel Brooks movies? Anyone at all?

Post by Sassyfrass »

I'm a huge fan of Mel Brooks' movies and I was shocked to find that he isn't as widely known or at least not by the other kids in my school. I'm a college student so I'm not that old but even my film instructor raised an eyebrow when I mentioned him today to my friends in class. His movies aren't that obscure are they?

Yep, that's what it is! Ask anyone thirty or up if they know about Mel Brooks, and they'll not only be familiar with the name, but also tell which of his movies is their favorite!

I didn't know it was possible not to know who Mel Brooks is. Wow I am feeling old. OMG I love Blazing Saddles!

Well, I have to qualify the term "fan". I've seen most of his movies and there are some good gags in them but they are not the type of movies I would re-watch very often. A little of Mel goes a long way *LOL*

By coincidence I recently saw High Anxiety . I wouldn't rate it as one of his best. His movies are all parodies and satires of different movie genres. Blazing Saddles was obviously a satire of all the old western movies, Young Frankenstein was meant to poke fun at the horror films, Spaceballs, of the science fiction movies ect. When you view them in that light they are actually quite funny because you can identify the stereotypes he is directing his satire toward.

He is brilliant. Spaceballs actually makes fun of Star Wars. I am a huge fan and grew up watching them. I used to have my friends over on the weekends to have Mel Brook's nights. History of the World Part 1 was pretty epic.

I did not like Young Frankenstein.
