Name that quote, 70s game show style

Post by Eyre-thee-well »

How many remember the game show 'Name that Tune'? (For informational purposes, I was VERY young when it aired)I thought it might be fun to try it with book quotes. I will name a book, and put the number of words of a quote I am thinking of from the book in parentheses. You comment that you can name the quote from that book in so many words, it has to be at least one word less than the number in parentheses. Then I will reveal the number of words of the quote you suggested and see if you can finish it, or if you can name it without any words, just go ahead and say 0 and make your guess. The game show used to have a bid between contestants, to see who could name it in fewer notes, but we will just skip that.
I'll start with an easy one, just to get it going.

Haha! Well, as many quotes from Jane Eyre that I know, a four word quote is not coming to my brain right now. I would say just give me the first word, but if it is 'I', that's not going to help me much. So I'm hoping the first two words of the quote will help me guess the rest. And if not, well, then I need to go back and read my favorite book again!

OK, guys, name the book! Here's the quote from it:

One superlative song, existence the price. But the whole world stills to listen, and God in his heaven smiles. For the best is only bought at the cost of great pain... Or so says the legend.

Name that book!
