Love those Boston baked beans. Very few resturants have them. Wish I knew how to make them. (hint hint)

Here's the / my recipe B.H.!...SIMPLE as pie"

1- Pinto Beans ( I guess Any beans will do )
2-Cook them first on top of stove, I add onion, seasonings to your taste, s&p, sometimes Cumin, fresh Garlic, etc...
3-some red wine, ( optional ) OR Beer if you have it...( I find cooking w/booze adds another " dimension of flavor " )
4-After a couple of hours or so when they're done, remove from heat and add a combination of any of the following ingredients you may have on hand:
Molasses, ( Always )
Ketchup
Tomato paste
Tomato sauce
Balsamic vinegar
Brown sugar
Worcestershire sauce
Tamarind
Date paste
Maple syrup
Dijon mustard ( a tad )
Brown sugar............After mixing in any of these ingredients that's added to the beans, put into 350 degree oven to bake until the whole thing is " bubbling " on the top and turns a reddish brown color...keep checking so that they don't dry out, you may have to add more liquid to avoid this...A crock pot works well w/this, but not absolutely necessary..

If you recall I got hooked on these beans as a kid when we went ice-skating in Central Park and ritualistically went to the HORN & HARDART AUTOMAT to warm up w/these baked beans and a cup of their hot cocoa...

I remember the results as being " dark, rich, sweet, and tangy..

Had a couple of Brats w/it and " B.H.'s famous home-made Kraut recipe ", ...DELICIOSO!

Bon Appetit, enjoy !

Can you use canned beans? The best I ever ate was a little hole-in-the-wall cafe in Richfield, Utah a small farming town. They had a big oven they baked them in little clay pots. Good good good.
