Re: Where do you get your name?

Post by Endless-Starry-Mind »

Well, shared names run in my family. Many of the males in my family have the first name of Joseph, as well as Lee, and a couple Leroy's. My father's first and middle name is Joseph Lee, but he goes by Lee. Lee is also my brother's name, and my other brother's middle name. So me being a girl, I got named a female version. My name is Leigh Ann. Ann is my grandma's middle name. I've never liked my name.. sigh..

My namesake is my mother's grandmother. She died as a result of third degree burns internal and external caused by a gas explosion in her home. My mother was very close to her and decided to pass her name onto me.

When people hear my first name, they always ask "like the Greek goddess?" However, my parents were really big into SciFi back in the day, especially a certain show. My first name is from a character on the old 1978 series Battlestar Galactica and my middle name is the first name of the actress who played that character.

I'm not exactly sure where my name came from (Mel) but I know my parents were going to name me Melonie when they got frustrated that everybody would just call me Mel anyway so i'm officially Mel.
It's funny because everybody who knows me closely call me Melonie anyway.
And it's quite often people don't believe the name on my birth certificate is Mel, they always think i'm lying to get my nickname.
People always swap my name around for Mal, teachers used to call me Mal all the time and i'd be constantly correcting them.

I don't think my parents have ever given a specific reason as to my name, Allison. My mom wanted to name me Kimmerly, thats not a typo, and my dad said no one will ever spell that correctly, so Allison won. Which is good as I don't like Kimmerly. But I will say, no one ever spells Allison correctly either!

I am not sure. I know it was not my mother's first choice but I am happy with the full name I ended up with.

My grandfather wanted to name me Rachel Evonne. My mother didn't like Rachel from Another World so she refused that part of it. There was a nurse on a show that she liked whose name was Jill, so that's what I got. Besides I would have been out of place with the four other "j" names in the family.

My legal name is my mothers first name with an N (my first name) at the end and my fathers first name with an N at the end (my middle name). I have chosen the name Raven after one of my favorite comic and tv show characters Raven from Teen Titans.
