Moses

Moses by Casimir Greenfield

Hitched a ride with States side guy on his way to Birmingham
He spoke in Californian his side-kick was a Wesson
He smelled of soap and motor oil, his clothes were clean but threadbare
His Wayfarers gleamed in the headlights
And all his words just hung there…

He told us ‘bout the Philly thing with one hand on the wheel
The findings and the cover ups, he made it seem so real
He was driving on the left, we was driving right
He dropped us at a Wimpy Bar in the middle of the night…

And we were at the starting blocks of our wild and crazy ride
He looked to us as if his end was nigh
The things he told us that chilled us and stayed with us through life
They pierced us then and cut us like a double-bladed knife…

He said; ‘They opened up a hole in time - I lost my friends, I lost my mind
They opened up a hole in time - I could see, but they were blind
They opened up a hole in time - being there my only crime
They took my past and burned it down and I’m living on borrowed time…’

He disappeared into that night - vanished without a trace
But every truth he told us then was etched upon his face
And we listened like two innocents there at the seat of learning
Sharing souls for peace of mind at that ring-tailed devil’s sermon
Some things have changed, some have remained and some have passed away
And Moses keeps on running like the wind
